I am not sure exactly what forum to put this in; if the thread needs to be moved I'm fine with that.
I am still in high school, and I plan on seeing a new psychiatrist on Friday. I am having concerns with whether or not I have ADD/ADHD. Many symptoms are manifesting, including: inattentiveness, inability to concentrate, unable to complete projects/moving from one project to another without finishing, impatience, quite often interrupt others, grades significantly dropping (27 in AP Spanish, and a 53 in Precalculus), unable to focus on reading something that doesn't seem appealing to me (I have only finished one book in my life, and I'm not illiterate, I have a high IQ and go to the #1 academic public school in my state), I'm always off task (in class instead of taking notes I'll stare at the ceiling or distract others), I horribly procrastinate, I am extremely unorganized, and I often blurt out things/do certain actions before thinking of the consequences. I do not show signs of hyperactivity. My inability to focus in school is also bringing on anxiety and depression, because I worry that I may not get into any colleges nor graduate high school for that matter.
Back to the point-If I talk to my new psychiatrist about these concerns, would it be a good idea to tell them about my recreational use of cannabis, MDMA, and Psilocybin Mushrooms? The reason I am somewhat reluctant to do so, is because they may think that I "just wanna get high off of ADD medicine"; I don't. I think I may need it, and I use recreational drugs for recreational use, and prescribed drugs for therapeutic use. One reason I think it may be good to discuss it with them, is because it obviously interacts with my brain chemistry, and I could make the argument that if I wanted to get prescribed a stimulant just for the sake of getting "fucked up", that I wouldn't even bring up the fact that I use drugs in the first place. Also, I use cannabis primarily on weekends, and have used MDMA a few times, same with Mushrooms, and all times they have been spread out a sufficient amount of time. I am also diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and more recently with Central Adrenal Insufficiency.
So would it be a good idea to discuss my drug use with my psychiatrist?
