Hey guys first time poster.

I was going to post this in healthy living but I wasn't too sure. I guess we'll find out though and mods, please move this if you feel it has more relevance over there.

Basically I've got this chronic issue, I don't know if it's paranoia or for real and I dont know what I'm really hoping to learn from anyone here but meh. Whenever I'm in public or something, transport, shops, gigs, whatever, I'll get this wet sensation or tickling on, sounds gross, my ass or legs. I run to the bathroom and wipe or whatever and there's never anything there except maybe a drop of sweat or whatever but it'll be enough to convince me that I smell horribly of shit. I've dropped out of college because of it, quit jobs because of it.

It happened tonight at a gig, i got the sensation and then the air stank like someone had let out a horrific fart (i know i didn't). So I think it was me that stank, just by peoples looks and stuff. And I always got the feeling that nobody was stood behind me throughout the gig yknow?

Is this madness? I've asked my flatmate tonight if I stink and he's says no, but I just dont believe him! I've even asked my mother and my friends in the past and nobody has ever actually told me that I stink but then again people wouldn't would they? It may be worth mentioning that I shower once if not twice a day with soap and shampoo, deodorising too.

Coming home tonight though I decided to make up a diet. Low fat, vegetarian, caffeine and gluten free. I'm going to be one healthy man.

Do I sound like a paranoid wreck? Thanks if you bothered.

Hi spacedrones, firstly, welcome to Bluelight :)

The diet plan that you have certainly can't hurt, as long as you make sure you're getting enough protein and calcium with your vegetarianism. And it's always a good thing to cut out caffiene, especially if you suffer from any type of anxiety.
But honestly, gluten-free dieting can be pretty inconvenient and expensive so there's not much point going gluten-free if you don't have to. If you're concerned that you might be gluten-intolerant, you should get it checked out with your doctor first.

These bits that you mentioned are alerting warning bells to me. You think that there's something there, you feel it on your legs etc, but you check and there is NOT anything there. You smell odours and you're convinced that other people smell it too, but close friends and relatives have assured you that they can't smell it. It seems that you're having tactile and olfactory hallucinations, and whether it's purely caused by anxiety or whether it's caused by something else, I can't say. You will need to discuss this with your doctor as soon as you can. They will probably refer you on to a specialist to investigate further.

Good luck, and keep us updated <3

Are you on any medications or taking any recreational drugs? Both can alter the smell of your sweat as well as the way you perceive smells.

I'd definitely book an appointment with a mental health professional given the extreme, life-changing decisions that you've made because of it. I'm sure you realise that it isn't really rational to quit college or jobs because you think you smell.

Something's going on which needs evaluation and management (I wouldn't be surprised if it's something on the OCD spectrum), but you need a proper assessment by a qualified health professional to determine whether its original is physical (some physical conditions can cause olfactory hallucinations) or psychological. It would also be a good idea to get a full blood workup before radically changing your diet to ensure you have no deficiencies which might be made worse by restricting your diet.

Olfactory hallucinations, which I'm neither saying are the case or aren't the case with you OP, are often associated with the temporal lobe sometimes they are even related to seizures. n3o already hit it on the head. These things going on with you ought be evaluated by a physician. We are heading towards two weeks of not hearing from you. We are interested. Are things less intense or more intense than before? Have you consulted any professionals?

Besides the fact that TDS folks care, your outcomes with this problem can increase TDS wisdom and experience for future posters with like problems. So, anything new or different?

Did this preoccupation originate while you were under the influence of a drug and persist even while sober? Are you generally high or sober when the paranoia starts creeping in? I find that a single panicked episode -- I'm not classifying your turmoil as a "panic attack," just noting that it seems to involve extreme anxiety -- can lead to even caffeine re-invoking the same feelings for days or weeks afterward. So cutting caffeine should help you ... Just how much do you usually consume?

weird, I've experienced similar things thinking I peed myself and then didn't. random as hell too
