for about 4-5 weeks i took xanax every day (once a day) @ 1-2mg. then i started tapering down.. .5mg for 3 days, .25 for 3 days, .125 for 3 days, then stop. my last dose was exactly 4 days ago. but i've had anxiety through the night and wasnt able to sleep, so when the sun came up i took .25mg. so did i just basically reset the withdrawal? or not exactly

i doubt you did much to reset the withdrawal. I was seriously addicted to xanax at one point over a decade ago. 20 plus MG a day for about a year from a very unscrupulous doctor. He eventually 'left the clinic' and no other doc would touch me. I was referred to the only psychiatrist who would even consider helping me. He strongly suggested inpatient, but i refused and what he did was to immediately drop it to 15 mg a day, insisted i had 24/7 watch for seizures, added an anticonvulsant and then did a .25 mg drop every ten days. It was still hellish.. i slipped up a few times but overall dont think it had any impact on my WD. Good luck!

wow you could feel a .25 mg drop over TEN days? Thats absolutely mind blowing especially when talking about doses as high as 15/20 mg

even suboxone if you taper by that amount over that long a time u hardly feel it how incredible

No you didn't reset your withdrawal if you hadn't done it in 4 days. However, I've seen plenty of people thinking they were kicking from 1-2 days of using. But they never are, its just in their heads...

Okay, so the important thing to realize about benzodiazepine and alcohol withdrawal. It is not linear in the same fashion as say, opioid withdrawal. It's notorious for how unpredictable it can be and how the symptoms tend to "wax and wane". Experiences of others and articles I have read indicate that redosing benzodiazepines in the withdrawal phase can prolong it. I don't know how to explain it. It doesn't seem to be dose/time dependent.

When I was coming off a fifth of hard liquor a day habit, there would be mornings that I would wake up and say "Man, I've really turned the corner and I'm feeling better, I'm getting over this!", only to have the symptoms come back in full force later on in that day.

Abstinence is the best idea when dealing with benzodiazepines due to the aforementioned unpredictability of withdrawals. It's not the end of the world that you have slid back slightly, just pick up and move on and be proud of yourself for any little shred of progress you make in getting off of them. It's hard. Benzo's and alcohol are the most nightmarish withdrawals I know of.

Benzos is a super harsh withdrawal. Opiates can feel like you're going to die, but benzos you actually can. Now don't get me wrong, if I had to choose between a benzo kick and an opiate kick I'd choose benzos everytime. But, benzos IS terrible, feels like you're going to seizure every second, like little electro-shocks all day its horrid.

I got off a bottle and a half of vodka a day drink problem ( 10 Years alcoholic, 2 years at that level. 750 Ml bottle here in the UK).

I was in hospital with the withdrawal, and had a seizure. It was complete hell. I honestly thought I was going insane, my thoughts were out of my control. The pain was immense. Every part of my body was cramped, and I couldn't even feed myself (Let alone face) Food for the first 4 days due to shaking so badly. I got out the other side though, am now 10 months dry.

I am unfortunately now addicted to diazepam, only 12 MG a day though. My doctor has told me to start reducing, so I am going to try this week. I hope it's not too bad.
