Hello
My brother has been using regular doses of dexedrine from somewhere however he cannot get off of them. He used about 10 mg 2xday for about a year but for some reason, as it happens in rare situations, he cannot get off of it. Even when he takes it within 2 hrs he starts feeling horrible. His widrawal symptoms are as bad as of someone who is getting off of heroin or opioids plus a lot of severe mental issues. If we went to ER how to go when the pills werent in his name?

My question..Is there anything out there that could help?

He has tried benzos but already dependent on them. Pregabalin gives him bad reaction. Anything to help the withdrawal?

ps. He tried to go cold turkey but day 3 was as far as he could get due to severity of the symptoms.

Where does he get them? Are you 100% sure they are dexedrine? Because dexedrine does not cause withdrawal symptoms like you're describing (especially at a small dose of 10mg 2x a day). You might feel a little tired and depressed after stopping, but that is about it. No severe withdrawal symptoms.

is it possible that he may be taking something else?

He took it from someone.

Actually in rare cases dexedrine can cause a lot of problems including withdrawal. I know when I used to take 30 mg 2 to 3 times per day I quit cold turkey only felt like 2 days down. But according to pubmed and my shrink in rare cases (like my bro) can have a real difficulty to get rid of it.

Amphetamines can cause withdrawal symptoms, but never as bad as what you described:

His widrawal symptoms are as bad as of someone who is getting off of heroin or opioids

There is simply no physiological mechanism for amphetamines to produce withdrawal as severe as heroin. However, psychologically, anything is possible, people can imagine all kinds of scenarios. But the reality is that there is simply no mechanism in the human body for withdrawal from 20mg/day of dexedrine to resemble heroin withdrawal. People often say, "well, everyone is different". But the truth is, physiologically, as homo sapiens we are all very similar, and the main differences exist in our psyche.

Amphetamines can definitely produce withdrawal symptoms, but they aren't "as bad as of someone who is getting off of heroin or opioids". Especially not for someone using 20mg/day of dexedrine.

I would start suspecting something else might be wrong like some sort of micro nutrient deficiency if they are real Dexedrine.

2 hours after taking is the usual peak of an oral instant release dose if I remember correctly so perhaps if something else that's wrong is making him feel bad normally it could be made worse by the Dexedrine. People who use stimulants are known to eat much less than they should which can easily lead to such deficiencies.

Has he spoken to his doctor? Describing how he feels when he's not on Dexedrine could clue the doctor into what's going on, so I think its a good idea to make an appointment. They can check blood for many different common deficiencies pretty easily, I fixed some of my own after getting tested and it can honestly be life changing if there are real deficiencies.

I hope he can start feeling better soon!

Pills not in his name, totally weird symptoms with WD-s.
Did they feel like a stimulant ?

Amphetamine, especially dextro low oral doses,
have no physical WD ime.

Test the pills, sounds like there is a physically addicting,
substance in em. Fake pills are very common in US and UK.
And don t take any till you know what in it. Fentanyl !

Tbh unless the someone he's getting it from is a friend with a prescription I doubt it's actually dexamphetamine. Most pressed "Adderall" or "study" pills sold on the dark web are either meth or RC amphetamines, or plain racemic amphetamine if you're lucky.

I've been prescribed stimulants including dex for the better part of 25 years and have never encountered anything like what you're describing. Stopping it abruptly makes me tired lazy and hungry for a few days.

Maybe see if you can get a pill tested and go from there?

Wrong. Classic ignorance. Maybe you didn't pay attention where he put the word "rare". That amphetamine has caused problems to my loved ones too. Very similar. If you look on askapatient.com you will read some horror stories.

Dexedrine can cause severe mental health issues, especially at high doses or with long-term use. It may lead to anxiety, agitation, paranoia, psychosis, mood swings, or obsessive thoughts. It can also worsen preexisting conditions like bipolar disorder or schizophrenia and cause dependency, withdrawal symptoms, and sleep disturbances. If these issues occur, the medication should be reassessed by a doctor, and tapering must be done under medical supervision. Alternative treatments and therapy may help, and immediate medical attention is necessary for severe symptoms like psychosis or suicidal thoughts.
