So, I've been prescribed dexamphetamine for about 4,5 months now.
I take some other medications with it and my main goal is to stay sober from alcohol and GHB.
My psych is easy in prescribing meds or I can be convincing when I want too, don't know. 8)
but my tolerance has developed quite fast I think. (Got my script and was told to figure out what felt best and when to use it.) No one to blame but myself though. I do try the things I've read on the forum, taking magnesium, going back to my original dose.

My question is: Are there people here who quit using downers and had beneficial effects from uppers at therapeutic dosages? And did it last?

- btw, I do realize this can be a placebo effect or something else I'm grabbing on too. The "motivation comes from within" speech get's kind off old after 8 rehabs. :\
"Sober since October".. Excuse me for my grammar, English is not my first language.

Well, I know amphetamines are sometimes prescribed off label in sever depression cases, but then again, I believe that opiates are too (this is very rare, and the opiate I am referring to is buprenorphine).

Dextroamphetamine reduces my cravings for litterally all drugs, I'm currently trying to find a psychiatrist/doctor who will prescribe me Dexadrine, Adderall or Vyvanse.

However what works for some might not work for others. I would not recomend in general that people who are addicted to a different drug, try to treat that addiction by using another addictive psychoactive drug.

That is the feeling I get from taking dextroamphetamine too.
I get the feeling that the increased focus takes my thoughts off constantly craving alcohol among others.

I had no idea they prescribed opiates in those cases. Interesting though. (No bad intention) ;)

I do get what you're saying about replacing a drug with another drug, that's something I really want to avoid getting out of hand. Don't want to be looking for street amphetamines because I feel addicted like crazy.
Benzo's did help me a couple of years to stay sober and until this day I use them. :/ GHB seemed like a way out once too.

That's the reason for asking if anyone has good experiences with amphetamines at therapeutic dosages and if it lasted.

^^ Yeah that's usually a bad idea. The only case in my experience where another relatively safer drug has helped would be Kratom. Somehow it completely wipes out any desire for other drugs and definitely alcohol.

The effect is not that you feel good and don't need anything else or that's its a logical decision based on things like ruining the Kratom high etc. I feel a genuine drop in the desire itself without any reasoning, as if it was something you usually didn't like doing. I would even feel a bit ill at the idea of other drugs or alcohol on it.

It has helped a lot to reduce methamp use on weekends and alcohol in the week. Kratom helping with methamp use seems like a nobrainer however i am not certain if taking on the risks of Kratom to replace alcohol is always the best idea. For me it is but thats something each person needs to decide themselves.

Besides that I would never go the upper route as it increases compulsive risk taking behavior and reduced consideration of risks or consequences. Personally i dont drink a lot on meth but thats simply due to focus on other things and forgetting everything else for a long time. I used to drink on coke to take the edge of the anxiety you get but higher dose amps dont have this for me.

Other then that amps or stimulants for me result in behavior and attitudes like for example drinking on it just because im not supposed to. Rebellious and hedonistic.

Lol, tell me about the motivation speech. Is this about saying that you dont need amps for the motivation, you can get it sober? I think thats the biggest issue with stopping amp use. Luckily for me i don't get motivation to do anything constructive so its never come a more frequent or daily addiction.

Thanks for your reactions guys,

I never used kratom, I only know it from smartshops and thought it was recreational.
Opiates are not my problem, would it help with other addictions it's worth looking into.

I'm allready prescribed two kinds of medication against craving without luck.

Yeah, I mean the speech; You got the motivation in yourself, the drugs are just the 1%. You don't need it.
While feeling down and can hardly bring yourself to make a sandwich. Haha.

Trying my best at translating.

Must say I do notice I become more compulsive in some ways, or it's more obvious to myself.
But I don't feel the need to drink or take the edge of anything. Maybe because of my benzo use.
I do have some mild anxiety but that's manageable.

Yeah, it is mostly for rec use but remember most drugs are just tools with many uses depending on your understanding of them and your needs. For example, alcohol is a legal rec drug but with some knowledge you might know for example its also a very effective anti anxiety medication that can assist to treat a panic at XXX dose and for isolated infrequent or short term treatment.

So while Kratom has rec effects it also has those i mentioned. For this purpose the rec part also helps me personally since its difficult to replace worse drug with nothing, maybe only something that blocks other desires.

You might still get bored or frustrated and seek out other options. But replacing bad stim habits with Kratom is easy because its also enjoyable and will substitute the other drug during your usual usage schedules and therefore there is no knock to your perceived quality of life.

Substitution is probably not the best route to improving these issues but it has worked very well for me if done properly.

Thanks! Will keep that in mind and read some more about it, just in case I do need something to reduce cravings.

We need a one drug/med fixes all problems in this world. :))

In essence amphetamines are dopamine and nor-epinephrine releasers, much like alcohol, and GHB. There's no doubt that in practice they could possibly be effective in controlling the cravings from these substances.

The shortfall however would be trying to avoid addiction from the amphetamine itself, which is a difficult task. Amphetamines also have a wide range of problematic symptoms that deeply affect the human psychological state. Insomnia, anxiety, and depression being the most prevalent, which could in turn corner you back into using depressants to balance these effects.

The end result could very well be multiple addictions instead of one.

Thanks Chromophobia,

They do work on the same neurotransmitters but my preference is always been for downers, not stimulants. (Addiction)
I do realize there is a risk for serious addiction and preferences can always change.
On my days "off" I'm allready more tired and irritated.
I was a insomniac allready, and this isn't helping my nights, but does help my days.

Buh.. I'm rambling.. Please stop me. This post isn't long but I'm on my phone and I corrected 20 times!! :D
