What is better to detox using methadone or suboxone? For people who have tried both. I will be attending an inpatient detox, which I hear is around five days.
 
I haven't detoxed with Methadone, but spent around 6 months on MMT.

I spent 2 years on Suboxone, as well as having experience using it to detox from Heroin and Oxycodone inside an inpatient facility.

I haven't heard of an inpatient facility using Methadone over Suboxone for detox's. I think Suboxone would be the more effective route to go, unfortunately I do not know of any first hand research to tell you.

Common sense tells me that Methadone is more for Maintenance, and Suboxone is for both short term detox and Maintenance. *I could be wrong, and someone who has more experience could correct me on that.
 
I would go with suboxone and try to take the least amount you can but still comfortable with while your there. You dont want to start a routine of subs it can be worse than heroin withdrawals(many stories to back that up)
 
I did a 10 day detox with soboxone and i didnt feel a thing...it was painless...I think i can remember the dosages if your interested?
 
I think either one would work effectively if you are intending on getting off the dope all together, including no maintenance drugs.
if you want something to sustain your spirit for a while, though, I would go with suboxone as it allows you to have a normal rx and to live your life, no going to the clinic at 7 in the morning.

I would recommend stabilising on bupe once in withdrawal, but don't take 8+ mg like most doctors will give you, take like 2mg, or as little as you can. There are alot of reasons for this, but bupe ceiling activity is around 3mg. No one has any idea why most doctors rx so much.
After that, quickly reduce your dosage, taking half as much bupe every day, until you take none. Don't draw this process out, it is going to suck at some point, likely much worse if you are coming off high dose maintenance on methadone or bupe. I wish you luck.
 
Both will work. Personally I have never detoxed with methadone but my preference for getting off heroin would be a 21 day methadone taper. Suboxone works but the reason I dont like it is because for one the first few days on it are quite rough to me and two, it causes me emotional blunting.
 
Yeah, why do they rx so much? I am prescribed 24 mg of suboxone a day but the most I will ever take is 4 mg even that I consider an extremely high dose. A normal dose for me would be 1 mg.

Agreed and Sub detox takes a painfully long time. I would go the4 methadone route or run it out qs you cn with other substances. t's not the hell everyone says it is but sub detox is. I hope I can get some back on this. Either way, good luck and kudos.
 
I would suggest Suboxone/Subutex over methadone for a detox, though, as stated either would work. I have not had personal experience with either, but know my fair deal on drugs in general, and I would think Suboxone/Subutex would be easier to kick than methadone after a detox. Frankly, though, I do not see detoxing with opioids as particularly advantageous over kicking your opiate of choice, heroin in your case, cold turkey with the assistance of GABA-ergic sedatives such as benzos and z-drugs, loperamide, and anit-emetics if needed.
 
I'm in the late stages of a quick detox from Oxy/H with the assistance of methadone myself. It's been working like a charm. Miracle actually. I had a 100 - 200 mg day gorilla to feed right up until the morning I slurped 20mg of MD and walked away right there. Been sliding dose down since last Friday and won't use the MD for more than 15 days tops. Haven't touched and don't really care about the gear right now. It's day 7 and I have 20mg left which I will use vary sparingly until it's gone.

LOL Have no idea what to expect when I'm finished up in a few days but so far this is really working and people have said its a soft crash. We'll soon see.

What matters most is what happens when the detox is over.

Yeah...It went very similar to this...Day one...in mod withdrawal...36 hrs since last opiate I was given

day 1...6mg
day 2...8mg
day 3...10mg
day 4...12mg
day 5...10mg
day 6...8mg
day 7...6mg
day 8...4mg
day 9...2mg
day 10...1mg
day 11...nothing and i stayed clean for 6 years..was done as outpatient in Surry Hills..
My dad has done like 55 detoxes in his lifetime and he took me to this one and was amazed at how easy it was for me..He couldnt believe it actually...
There is a point for "peaking" the dose and making it climb for the first 5 days, but i cant remember it!!!
 
I've never taken more than 1-2 mg's, but I'd imagine the reason why some doctors prescribe so much is to maintain high blood levels, never allowing your body to drop below the ceiling, even if you may forget to take a dose?
 
i have detoxed off both methadone and subutex and for me the easiest and quickest was subutex.
