Opioids Detox from oxy 40mg daily, post surgery? Advice?

Had a major back surgery recently and I’ve been taking oxycodone up to 40mg for about 5 months now. Post surgery it was closer to 60mg daily. Am also taking 5-10mg Valium nightly for muscle spasms and sleep. I’m less concerned about the Valium as I was on 2mg/night for sleep for a year prior and it was basically like a placebo I could take it or not and be ok, it just helped me with falling asleep (spasms). I took it for the same reason I finally got the surgery for (nerve pain from herniated discs causing spasms). I’m worried about the withdrawal from stopping the 40mg daily, but I do want come off the medication. I’ve heard all sorts of different methods. 1. Slow tapering, which sounds incredibly long and tedious. 2. Using a subutex taper for about a week? 3. Cold Turkey and just use comfort medications (would rather not). Open to all suggestions.

I should say my doctor’s let me know, due to the fusing of my vertebrae I could need pain medication for up to 9 months-I simply am tired of the side effects. The bowel disruption, the stomach pains I get. Appetite loss. I just want to get off and see if I can build my own natural pain tolerance. Any advice from experience would be greatly appreciated. I’m sure my doctors would support whatever decision i made and prescribe medications to help to this end. But I have plenty of Valium and plenty of oxycodone. I don’t mind taking 2mg Valium nightly to ease the spasm and sleep but I do want to cease the 40mg daily oxycodone. 35 year old male, otherwise good health, non addictive personality. Many thanks in advance 🙏🏻. (Thc products are not an option for me, nothing against them I’m just not allowed due to my line of work)

I know its not what you want to hear but IMHO a slow taper is the only way I would probably consider this. Oxy WD's are something else and I wouldn't wish them on anyone. Drop by 5mg every few weeks. Even then it wont be easy but you can then request the liquid preparation for the last 10-15mg and drop by 1mg at a time. If you are in the right frame of mind and it very much helps that you don't have addictive tendencies then you shouldn't have many problems. The fact that you will clearly notice your bowl disruption and stomach issues improving as you go lower will help also.

I appreciate your opinion. Hoping more people can provide theirs as well. Open to the long and tedious route, if necessary. Thank you.

just stop taking the oxycodone and when and if you start to feel bad take some and you will be off before you know if you want it..Your on such a small dose and not for a long time... no reason not to be off this completely in 2 weeks tops imo
So you’re saying the dose I’m on isn’t large enough to have terrible side effects if I just sort of stop and take 1 here or there over a couple weeks to lessen the symptoms it won’t be that bad? When should my body be fully adjusted off of them (from last dose)?

I made this post to help people quitting dope. I really don’t know the extent of your habituation with your oxycodone but the likelihood is you will probably experience some withdrawal effects that you could likely ignore or could possibly be bothered by. The following post may have some vitamins and or supplements that would benefit you if you feel shitty. Ignore the posi encouragement stuff. I probably wouldn’t take the small dose of oxy once you do become sick because your brain will recognize that you feel better when you take it and that might form a strong reward response to taking oxycodone. I would probably just take it less often for a bit though and do the slow taper. Just to get accustomed. But I might do it over a week or so rather than take a long time with it.

I’m sure you’ll be fine but these vitamins and supplements will help if you don’t feel your best.
I’m just going to quote the post since I don’t want to type it.

Good luck! You’re going to do great !
Here is the master list in order of importance

DLPA- has the most profound overall benefit by providing building blocks of dopamine
Magnesium - helps with restless legs and stress
Liposomal vitamin C - helps with everything
Vitamin D- helps with the PAWS depression
L-theanine - helps with stress by providing immediate calm take more than recommended like 300 mg
ashwaghanda - regulates cortisol levels which are going to be going haywire
Multivitamin - helps with everything
B-complex- get that shit out of your system faster and have energy in the fucking mire of post opiate life
Iron— helps with not having been eating right if that was the case for you

This may be just me but I also keep really fuxked up hot chilis on hand. If you rub them on your gums and oral mucosa they can release super potent endogenous endorphins like opiorphine which will give you a solid twenty minutes of relief. Mmmmmmm pain

Speaking of pain.

Go get your ears acupunctured. Just tell them it’s for heron or opiate detox. Maybe placebo sure but placebo works 50% of the time if you believe the placebo will help

under the advice of your doctor
Good comfort meds
Gabapentin - 1800 mg is used by Iranian doctors but this is unprecedented in the us but I found it worked for heron withdrawal
Clonidine - never tried it but I’ve heard good things
Don’t know anything about the dosage
A benzo- helps with the sleeping. Don’t use it for anything else.

If you can find the strength. Begin light exercise as soon as possible. Endorphins really help.

Remember that you’re going to be hopeless. You’re going to be sad. You’re going to have to rebuild your life, your coping mechanisms, and your reward system from scratch. No one can do this for you. Rehab can help if you’re afraid you can’t bear the weight. You’re stronger than you think. But everyone needs help.

If you’re going to relapse it’s time to consider MAT
I’d rather see you on methadone than see you curled over in the street scratching your bones through a xylazine sore

I’d rather see your teeth fall out from suboxone usage than see you with the smile the mortician chose for you because fent took you from us.

I’d rather see you at the Smokeshop buying kratom having decided to give kicking another try later.

I’m a college graduate. It took me longer to make the decision to quit using opiates and even longer to quit than it took me to earn a four years degree; and that took me seven years.

I’m speaking from experience.

I know you can do it.

Take time away from work if you need to.

I’ll borrow from something u told my friend Anthony

“ hope you can make it past the really hard stuff. Picture yourself in the park. Lying on a big blanket. Little charcuterie. A person you love. It’s a beautiful day for a picnic in the park. You didn’t have to wake up and dose. You don’t have to run to the bathroom and dose. You don’t need to dose first thing when you get home. That’s what you’re quitting for. Not so much your family or the possibility of an OD. But because you deserve to have that freedom to just be alive, to just be happy, and to have no obligation to some receptors in your brain. But like you said, not OD ing is really important and I get that. But what I really wish for you is the freedom that comes with taking some time away from this chemically dependent life that it seems has not been so gratifying given the health troubles you’ve faced with overdoses.”

Or just being sick and tired of using.

All I know is when you get everything right again. Being sober feels kind of good.

Let me tell you where I’m at today.

It was hot. I could feel it. The wind was cool. I could feel that. No golden blanket hiding me from experiencing the world. I drive with the windows down getting dopamine from music. I’m happy. I worked for nine hours. I talked to my best friend. I felt joy.

That isn’t to say I didn’t feel sadness. Look up my post before this one. The point is. There is sweet with the bitter. And I did something good for someone today even though it took a lot out of me.

Now I’m writing this for you, for Anthony, for myself, for everyone who like me wanted to quit at home : e it for pride or arrogance or for a belief in the indefeatable nature of our human spirit.

I know you can do this.
If you’ve quit before and relapsed.
I know you can do this again
Good luck. God speed.

May the gods smile upon you
Perhaps you will smile back.

Wow this is amazing. I truly am on 10mg 4x daily and taking it as prescribed. I like the idea of the natural supplements once I get down to 10-20mg daily. My goal will be to taper down by the end of the month at the latest and then I’ll follow your guide. Appreciate this, the more I’ve researched the more I may have over worried a bit. But, I’ve seen horror stories and I just honestly can’t wait to get off this med and see where my baseline natural pain is. It was a rough surgery and the pain sucks but at this point with the constipation and appetite issues I’ll take the pain for the remainder of the rehab and see if I can get away with toradol shots from the IV nurse that comes by. Again, thanks for this 🙏🏻

You know I don’t usually make posts for people on dope but fuck it. This is harm reduction.

If you want to poop more regularly while on junk like oxy try adding 2 grams of fish oil to your biggest meal of the day. I found that I pooped regularly every day while on heroi n.

By the way, toradol is a fucking amazing medicine. It feels like nothing but better provided you have a legitimate complaint which reducing inflammation would assist. That medicine has been a god send to me and I fucking adore it.

But yeah. Don’t be scared of the horror stories. Those are other peoples experiences. What you are experiencing with withdrawal you have yet to see. You’re a brave soul. Just like all the other people using or deciding to stop. Your suck will be excactly your own. Don’t anticipate it. Don’t overestimate it. Focus on the present moment. Get your dose down and decide what to do from there.

I wish you the best of luck. And for now. Fish oil.

Hey there

If this was your very first run with oxy or any other opiod for a month just for recovery then I’m a 100% sure the Doc him self won’t just stop you blunt. He will most likely give you a tapering down plan and a quick one at that. Using it as you did and for the duration of the time I personally think this will be an easy come off.

All the best and when the day comes treat it like a fly cause that’s how it feels just with added runny tummy and nausea. But there otc stuff for that.

I really believe this will not be a difficult one unless you make it one.

i have titrated on/off oxy so many times. i use ULDN and black seed oil. depending on dose I pursue this method: from top daily dose, Ill just start taking a milligram(or two) off a day, and keep dropping dose until i am slightly uncomfortable, then stabilize there for 3/4 days, then continuing to drop. you could be off the oxy in 40-60 days depending on how much stabilization you require. ime throwing myself into deep wds and just jumping off is a recipe for freak out/INCreasing my dose to try to regain stability.

Thanks for all the replies. I ended up doing a pretty rapid taper (2 weeks) and then used the supplements from ‘helpingout’ post. First three days were like a moderate case of the flu, but by day 4 I felt better, slept through the night. After 7 days I was basically back to normal. If I could do it over I might’ve tapered for an extra week or two to ease up the first few days. But all in all I appreciate the support. I have neck issues from playing football and will likely need to have surgery again in the next couple years so at least now I know what to expect and how to safely and comfortably wean off if I need to next time. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Beautiful. I’m glad you were able to use the medicine as intended and were able to leave it behind until such time as you need it again. I’m happy you checked out the supplement post as well. You did a good job looking after your health and well being. I’m going to stop using kratom and it’s refreshing to hear your experience. I’ve been on it for about three weeks now and I’m not excited about the quit. But hearing your experience reminds me of the power of the human heart. I appreciate your strength in facing down the daemon and I’ll be employing some of that strength myself. Thank you for posting about your experience. It’s wonderful to know that you got where you want to be.

Good luck with your neck surgery. I wish for many pain free days in your future and for the days you do have pain I hope that your coping mechanisms can see you through to good health once again.
