The pits of hell
Okay my husband is an ex heroin junkie.. but now on weekends we get high on Roxis one or two nights. Usually sunday and monday he is wicked depressed has mild WD symptoms and generally feels crappy. What are some things he can take to feel better so there's not such a drop for him? He called me this morning pretty upset feeling like crap. We're actually taking a few weeks sabbatical from getting fucked up to let our tolerance drop eventhough I doubt mine will because of my daily use for pain management.

Are there vitamins? Benzos? What should he take?

Would 5HTP help?

Any help is greatly appretiated. Thanks :)

Thanks guys... I did forget to add he works wicked long hours and has a commute as well. The only excercise he really gets in his lifting some weights some nights before he showers. He could easily incoorporate some exercise into his work though.. Especially if a little bit would help.

I know it is hard as hell...I'm an opiate addict myself, but getting out there and jogging for a good 15 minutes will work wonders. Follow that up with a hot shower and 9 hours of solid sleep.

I feel bad for him cause he works so hard. I didn't realize he would experience WD from one to two nights of use. He hasn't use heroin in 10+ years. This became a replacement for drinking. We're both really bad drunks.

I'm gonna tell him when he gets home to jog instead of lift weights.. he takes hot showers every night as is. It's just those two nights for him then the rest of the week is fine. Some weeks are worse than others.. this week being one of the worse ones.

Again thank you so much.

Never replace heroin for an alcohol problem....if anything another GABA drug but not diamorphine! I hope he feels better soon and let him remember how bad he feels next time he wants to use.

He quit heroin over 10 years ago. Now we just use roxi on the weekends. It wasn't exactly a replacement... we just preferred the roxi. Do people get WD after one day a use maybe 2? He only uses on Fri or Sat or both.. Could this be psychological? He is a hypochondriac as well. But, I see the restless legs all night ect. He has no runny nose, no diahreah.. no other WD symptoms but depression and restless legs... (But he ALWAYS has restless legs)..

He goes through this basically every week. Just from weekend use. This is why I suggested we take a break from getting high for a bit.

True story: I quit opiates(only hydrocodone/morphine IR) for 5 months, tried 10mg's of hydrocodone and had 2 days of full blow w/d......everyone is different. Opiates can grab you for life....and the messed up part is my doctor told me to take them :(

That's horrible, I am so sorry about that. Perhaps that is how he is.. and will just be a lifetime addict and can never use casually without WD. :(

I think 1-2x a week use is too much, especially for an ex-opiate addict. He should keep it to once every 2 weeks at the most, if he doesn't want to feel like crap for the couple of days.

ugh, the thought of a hot shower while I'm WD is horrible. I cant stand the thought of taking one now, I'm also in full blown WD as I type. ugh. its the worst feeling ever. :( I was interested in this thread tto see if there was something I can do to help but neither a shower or a ''jog'' sounds good.

^^Of course they sound terrible......but I promise after you go jog even for a few minutes, rest, then take the hottest shower you can stand..take a few advils and relax. I always use loperamide and kava when I'm in w/d.

If he's using every weekend then he has opiates in his system most of the time. I'd try using less frequently. Not sure it will help, but worth a try I think.

no I mean kava....it acts like a benzo...the loperamide takes care of the stomach cramps, and the kava makes your blood pressure chill out and allows you to feel somewhat normal. Kratom acts on the mu opioid receptors so it would just make your w/d longer.

If he is an ex long term Heroin user then returning to using ANY opiates for ANY amount of time is NOT a good idea, he needs to say as FAR away as possible from ANY type of Opiates or he will continue feeling shitty minor WD symptoms and may even go back into using... He should stay Far, Far away from that. I know that sounds like it sucks but it's the truth that you probably don't want to hear.
