I was bores and I'm on 250 mg's of depakote and I decided to take more. I won't be doing DXM anymore and I can't smoke weed it makes my thoughts race and makes me very paranoid. Also what a strang feeling this is. I feel like I'm drunk and a litl stoned but I know that you can't take alot of this stuff because of toxic blood levels. So has anybody here had the same type of experience that I am having?

Valproates like divalproex aka Depakote can cause dizziness, drowsiness and other unpleasant effects that i guess one could mistake for the side effects of gabapentin. I have been on both Divalproex (called Epival here in Canada) and gabapentin and valproate never gave me any side effects really especially none that could be mistaken for that drunken feeling you get from too much gabapentin. Gabapentin feels sort of like a benzo in the way it hit's me in really high doses but it's unpleasant or atleast not that fun.

DO NOT TAKE MORE DEPAKOTE THEN PRESCRIBED! If those blood levels rise to toxic levels you will be in a world of trouble and agony. It is very toxic to the liver with overdose and it is not a recreational drug in any sense of the word. Ive never even heard of anyone even trying to take it for recreational use actually and considering how much it is prescribed here for bipolar disorder and epilepsy that maybe says alot right there. Even many people who take it for medical purposes don't like to be taking valproates because of the shitty side effects associated with this drug.

So do yourself a favor and stick to the exact dose your doctor has prescribed for you. Honestly you may as well try and abuse lamotrigine or topiramate. Just don't :|
