Anyone playing Demon's Soul right now? If so what build are you and where are you in the game (playthrough) now?

I am on the second playthrough in the Tower of Latria battling the Maneater boss. Soul lvl 92, created melee build on first playthrough, now using more magic and creating a mage build.

If you picked up the game or rented it, just to scream out in frustration at the unforgiving game mechanics...keep playing.

I bought Demon's Souls shortly after it was released and enjoyed it a lot but didn't get the chance to play it a lot. Now that summer's here I'm looking to get back into it.

It is unforgiving in that it forces you to learn from your mistakes or else repeat the first part of a level 100 times but I don't think it's all that difficult once you get that hang of the combat. Fuck those dragons though I can't wait to get strong enough to slay them.

The game is definitely rewarding once you master the learning curve. It warrants second or third playthroughs.

I can offer some tips that made it so much easier for me to finish the game

1. Master archery...no matter what build you are.

2. Be aware of your stamina, you can easily die if you attack/block and your stamina gets depleted.

3. Utilize magic and miracles. You should not rely too heavily on melee or archery. For example the Black Phantom Mindflayers in the Tower of Latria can be defeated easily if you have the Anti-Magic Field Miracle from the Storm King's Soul.

4. It makes sense to equip good armor for some boss fights, but it is more advantageous to equip light armor so that you can move faster. Heavy armor will affect your sprinting speed.

5. Spend some time upgrading weapons and shields. You can purchase ore from the vendor right in the beginning of Stongfang Tunnel and later near Patches...as well as hunting crystal geckos.

6. Try not to fight more than one enemy at a time. Draw them out with archery or spells. If the enemy is shielded or dangerous...wait for them to attack so that they stop guarding, then flank them and attack from the side.

7. Use rings to your advantage. One of the best rings is the Thief Ring which halves the aggro distance from enemies. The Master's ring is ideal for melee builds. The Ring of Magical Sharpness is good for mage builds. The Cling Ring gives you more HP if you are in Soul form.
