Swim knows that when people use heroin they get itchy and wants to know how to deal with that annoying itchy feeling. Swim knows of using sprays that contain diphenhydramine or taking benadryl before the opiates... but is wondering if there are better solutions.

Swim also wants to know if a person should still be itching after getting the heroin outta their system.
Swim has a friend who got through the withdrawals and IS SOBER with last iv of heroin being about a month ago. But should Swim's friend still be scratching all over as if he had poison ivy rubbed all over himself even if he hasn't used in a month?? Swim is lost because his friend is itchy and scratching all over every day even AFTER testing clean for opiates. fyi swims friend doesn't have anything he knows of around him that would make him have such violent itchy reactions. And no... Swim's friend did not roll in a field of poison ivy (at least not that he knows of) and yes Swim's friend is in fact clean.

Heroin itch won't last beyond the effects of the drug. Your friend probably got crabs. (or whatever those parasites are called)

Itch from heroin is usually relieved somewhat by antihistamines, which you are already taking. I don't think there is much else to do about it.

Not crabs, scabies. Your mate has scabies...which probably means a lot of your mates have scabies and you may well have scabies.

Scabies flourish amongst junkies for obvious hygiene reasons, but also because opiate use masks pretty much all the symptoms of scabies.

Can't do much other than taking antihistamines or choosing opiates that are less-histamine-y. Heroin, for instance, causes far less itchiness than morphine despite being stronger- some opiates are just more likely to cause itchiness/flushing/etc...if you're really sensitive entirely synthetic opioids tend to be better than naturals or semi-synthetics- methadone, tramadol, tilidine, tapentadol etc.

^yea that's what I meant.

In my experience the natural opiates (morphine, codeine etc) are the worst when it comes to histamine release while completely synthetic opioids such as ketobemidone and fentanyl generally don't cause excessive histamine release. Heroin lies somewhere in between.

^swedish, actually. Though if I remember correctly the danes have those 25mg ketobemidone pills, while we have to deal with 5mg only which is kind of a nuisance. I am a bit jealous.

might be a good idea to see a medical profession, your gp, and get him to do you the once over after explaining your situation.

otherwise try a few different anti histamines to see if one or another is succesful for the cure. if not, time to see a doctor.
