Hey all been a long time since I've posted here.

I have severe PTSD, severe adjustment disorder, panic disorder and now EUPD aka borderline personality disorder.

I'm going to be partaking in dialectal behavioural therapy along side prolonged exposure therapy, starting mid 2014, as I have a serious health condition and my case is complex, I am going to be in therapy for a number of years (they even suggested life long treatment).

I would like to know people's experiences, stories be they of success or failure. I just want to gain as much info as I can so that I can intellectually solve/repair/understand everything thrown at me. I have various different books that I am studying and I'd just like some first hand knowledge. Dbt has only been available for the last 2 years in the uk.

So if anyone can help me I would be grateful. Thanks in advance

DBT changed my life for the better. The best advice I can give you for it is to stick with it. It's not something that works overnight and it's not magic, but if you do the homework and be patient with it you'll notice a change for the better. I still have a lot of BPD type thoughts I had before, but since DBT I'm able to deal with them more effectively instead of just panicking or letting my thoughts take on a life of their own. It takes a lot of time and effort, but it's totally worth it.

D2p, I'm going to move this over to Mental Health. <3

Thanks spork. I'm studying workbooks until a place is available to me, which could be up to 6 months. I will be partaking it for 3 years so every week will have a one to one session, one group session, and two telephone consultations lasting 30-60 min for each call. Homework too obviously. Anyone else willing to share their experiences please? I want as much input as possible. Thanks again spork

I hate how long the waiting lists are for DBT, I had to wait about a year to get into a group. Which workbooks have you been checking out? Another really good resource that I still use is DBT self help.

The one I'm studying at the minute is a new one called mindfulness for borderline personality disorder using the core skills of dbt. I'm finding really helpful. I've also read how to tame a wild elephant, and I hate you! Don't leave me.
Saw my now ex shrink yesterday, she wouldn't put me on the meds that actually helped stabilise me and I'm not allowed to start therapy until I'm more stable... So yeah. Just got told to use my coping skills, if they actually helped, I wouldn't be in this state. I don't know how she can call herself a consultant, I've done everything she's asked of me, but she has done sweet f.a. In return. Trying to get a new dr. I'd stopped self harming for 11 months and now I'm back to doing it multiple times a week, that is my most dangerous and persistent "coping" technique, well that and failing all of my suicide attempts, last time I od'd I took nearly 5,000mg of morphine, 300mg Valium and 150mg of Thorazine. I wouldn't let the drs administer any naloxone and they said to my cpn they have no idea how I'm still alive :/. Mind you I fail at everything since my accident so it's just my luck really. Having an awful time at the minute. How long have you been battling bpd?

When I went into dbt I had a very mild diagnosis for personality disorder NOS.
in the end I found the most helpful section was interpersonal effectiveness. Golden and useful practical techniques.
Dbt is fantastic.

DBT is great. When I was in an auto accident, I had DBT as a part of treatment for the effects of my sever concussion.

OP, how are you doing with it?
