Before taking Quetiapine (Seroquel) for sleep, I had extremly desorganised life due to insomnia and some other stuff. Now that I take Quetiapine for sleep, I generally have good nights but when I wake up I feel tired and depresse and I think its due to Quetiapine long half-life and possible metabolite...

So first question; Does that make sens ?

So im planing on taking St John's Wort to counter this side effect during the day.

Second; Is that a good idea, would it work, is there any possible interaction ?

i dunno, personally i think it's absurd when doctors are prescribing antipsychotic medication as sleep aids. wouldn't be surprised if it's messing with your head a little. if you can't get your doctor to switch up your script, maybe try something like OTC doxylamine (unisom) or valerian root instead of the seroquel? i don't know anything about specific drug interactions between SJW and seroquel, hopefully others can fill in; i know SJW is known to have some drug interactions. i tried SJW daily for a month or two once a long time ago and i'm not sure i could distinguish any effects from placebo. i'd try to switch up your sleep medication and forget about the SJW, i think it's just a waste of time.

n.b. disclaimer! i'm assuming you're ONLY on the seroquel as a sleep aid, if you have been diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder whatever, do not discontinue without consulting your doctor, etc etc etc.

Yes Seroquel is only for sleep, he prescribed it to me because I have history of medication abuse and because I can use it for long period without building tolerance like Benzodiazepine would. And I dont prefer OTC sleep aid since they are anticholinergic and I feel as bad when I wake up.

I too hate when doctors do that.. I mean, Seroquel was designed as an antipsychotic, so I imagine it was tested in the context of: Does the benefits outweigh the risks? I'm not so sure the outcome would be the same if this was designed as a sleep aid...

From my experiences I am convinced Anti-depressants and anti-psychotics are no joke and shouldn't be prescribed for things like insomnia and minor anxieties.

If there is anyway possible at all, I would get off of those and experiment in whatever else I could find. It's a shame marijuana is still illegal..regardless of what the government says it IS better for you than these psychoactive medicines..

Sorry for the rant

ooh +1 strigoi... pot is a great natural sleep aid if you can get it, you aren't getting dropped or anything and it doesn't give you anxiety (never for me, but some people report so). even after over a decade of daily use, it still always does the trick for me :)

Seroquel is a weird one. It's half life is 6 hours but it has an active metabolite with a 12 hour half life. Why doctors are prescribing antipsychotics as sleep aids I'd like to know. What dosages are you taking for sleep? At lower doses it tends to function more like a potent antihistamine than an antipsychotic.

honestly, if you dont have psychoti problems, just ditch it. It is a very fucked up substance and shouldnt be used as a sleep aid in my opinion. If you can smoke some weed, do it, its far mor effective. Or like others said, unisom, valerian, low dipheydramine are all good for that

I take 25 to 50mg 1h before sleep. Some time when I withdrawal from opioids I have difficulty to fall asleep even with 75mg and I feel the antipsychotic effect, taking it and not behing able to sleep is horrible, I feel like shit and im sleepy.
