Nate,
This works for me you might want to try it. I am a big fan of st.johns wort. I take it everyday, but I got started taking it by recomendation of a friend who only uses it before and after you roll. Try and get the pills that are a combo, both st.johns wort and kava-kava. If you have never heard of them they are both herbal anti-depressants(but very mild ones). I take 2 the day before, 2 the day of, and three the day after. I have looked all over the place to make sure there are no interactions between the two. I have never had a problem. And for me I think the reason I get depressed is because the nature of the sober one is so much more harsh/cold than that of someone rolling. One of the best things about e is that you can be extremely social, kind and empathetic when rolling, which seems almost to be unnacceptable in reality. Anway that's my bit. Let me know how it works. Peace

someone should correct me if i'm wrong here, but i think taking st. john's wort before you roll is the ultimate waste of money. if memory serves me correctly, st. john's wort is a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor. this means that it will negate some (or all) of the e high, since during the e-high most of the serotonin enters the synapses through the re-uptake transporters. if these are plugged by the st. JW, forget about gettin' high.
i do agree though that it is a good idea to take some after your roll.

yeah not only that but kava kava is an MAOi which is the big no no to mix with E since it makes it real deadly, so only take the st johns wort and even then only take it after you are done rolling

ok, update here. i just did a search on yahho to try to find out more info on st. john's wort. apparently it's not a ssri, but it may work in almost the same way. here's the quotation i found:
"Pharmacopsychiatry, a prestigious journal, recently devoted an
entire supplementary issue to St. John's wort. The studies
published in this issue suggest that the primary mechanism by
which St. John's wort works is via inhibition of the reuptake of
serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine, in approximately equal
amounts. (In other words, by preventing the brain from
reabsorbing the neurotransmitters in question and so keeping
serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine levels in the brain at a
higher level.) [14,48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53] It also appears to
inhibit reuptake of GABA and L-Glutamine. These two latter
chemicals are the primary inhibitory (or"calming")
neurotransmitters in the brain."
so i would definitely not suggest taking it before you roll!!
