daniel johnston is a dude with a movie about him that was in some independent theatres and also on some people's cable television on one of those independent channels for a while. he's pretty well known. kurt cobaine had a shirt with one of his cartoons on it... this is a video where gibby haynes from the butthole surfers interviewed and either just daniel or both of them were on lsd supposedly. this video is pretty weird. i think if daniel were tripping on a higher dose, he would've been commenting on the visuals. but i think the amount he's on is definitely affecting him to come off as kind of paranoid and defensive... it's not really a good look... in another interview with just gibby he comments how he didn't give daniel the lsd when asked if he was the one that gave it to him. he said that daniel was mentally unstable and that's not the type of thing to do, giving a person like that lsd... i don't really like the attitude or maybe just the way the comment comes across in the interview, and i would not mind it if he were to have added "because he was violent and hit his manager" as the reason why he wouldn't give him lsd. i don't think the way daniel is portraying himself and a lot of what he did should be reason to cut him off from drugs, other than he talks about hitting his manager in the head with a pipe and that's something he actually did. when a person gets violent on drugs, that seems like the time to say no more for them in most circumstances... however, i'm uncertain if gibby knew that before this interview. i'm thinking he might've even shared the acid with him. when i first saw the video i thought gibby was drinking from an lsd drink and daniel probably took a sip before the interview started. supposedly not the case though. if i were the guy in the butthole surfers. i'd have large glasses of lsd though. lol... at 5.25 in the interview daniel starts to come across as a crossbreed between beetlejuice and bob cat goldthwait. i sometimes can get a similar personality on lsd. i feel like i have a lot of energy and doing that type of voice you can really realease a lot of energy, but you're also kind of not being very loud. usually people come across as pretty crazy when they talk like that. people mostly have the same type of personalities now days. kind of reminds me of how tom waits makes his voice. there are random people that actually talk like that. i assume they have a lot of energy and maybe are high testosterone or something. just guessing. i kind of wonder if some people that talk in really deep voices or with those weird raspy voices like tom waits are just putting on a show.. i think daniel johnston might be cought up in being childish and fun, but he kind of seems pretty natural with how he acts and doesn't really seem to be faking in any way.

here's the interview if anybody is interested in watching:

i don't know if anybody is familiar with the grindcore music genre, but a lot of bands like anal cunt make joke song titles commenting about stuff. gibby's interview where he talks about how he wouldn't give daniel lsd makes me want to write a song "constantly yelling at gibby haynes house" or something. cause i feel like the reason he probably wouldn't give to daniel is the pipe incident. lol. gibby seems like the kind of guy where you could disturb the peace near his house from some of other ways i've seen him acting in interviews, like he's just cool with general choas probably. lol. i had a bum that used to yell stuff down the street from my house. i wonder if gibby thinks that is a reason to cut some one off from psychedelics.. generally i think you're not supposed to disturb the peace and there should be designated areas to get wild and party if you want to yell or something... that'd be a funny title for a song to me though.... thinking about this further, daniel johnston actually has so much bad music, but with his few good songs, even if he were to still get violent with people, that maybe he should have some type of body guards that restrain him when he's going to get himself in trouble, and he still should be allowed to take drugs.. i'm kind of joking saying this. although the three songs i'm about to list are amazing to me, i'm still kind of uncertain about daniel johnston... however, another musician tim kinsella of owls, joan of arc, and captain jazz has supposed, i don't know if it's true there's nothing on the internet about it now days, but people were saying he was tripping and something went wrong and he dived off stage and attacked a fan. with the message board i was on, this may've been shit posting and totally not a real event. but it makes me wonder, like that dude actually is consistently that talented to me where i wouldn't want to take away his right to trip cause of one incident like that. check out the first record by the band owls if you are interested in this. he also sings and plays guitar at the same time really well on some other recordings..

BUT ANYWAYS, THESE ARE DANIEL JOHNSTONS THREE GREAT SONGS, most of his other music is pretty terrible. all his guitar work is awful and sounds like total shit. it makes me kind of not like him that he even attempted guitar cause it's like "do you not see how good someone like bob dylan is strumming. do you not get it???" but his keyboard/organ/piano work on these few song totally redeems him as a special artist... it's like he doesn't consistently have a muse though if you listen to some of his other work that isn't these three songs:

worried shoes:

walking the cow:

some things last a long time:

RIP
Daniel Johnston

here's eddie veddar mixing up daniels version of "walking the cow" a bit. didn't think it was gonna be good, but it's an alright song. i like how he does it:

here's some random you tube kid doing the same song.. i actually like this better than the eddie veddar, totally different, so i shouldn't really even comment:

walking the cow is supposedly about whatever the hell daniel is saying in that interview with gibby. lol. i always thought it was about global warming/cows and how good ice cream is.

here's the record with OWLS with the dude tim kinsella that i was describing compared to daniel johnston.. i fucking love this record... hit me so hard at like 17, still love it at 38:

also i want to or hope someone else someday makes a montage video of some of daniel johnstons facial expressions in that gibby haynes interview and puts just still clips of his face along to the song "daniel" by elton john... i always feel like that song has the feeling where it kind of empathizes with his insanity. cool stuff. lol
