I just heard about the Damanhur community today and at first, thought it to be a great idea; an intentional, utopian community working to better humanity. As I learned more, it appeared to exhibit cultish characteristics. Since then I have read wildly varying reports about life @ Damanhur; some saying it is indeed what it claims and others saying it is a cult designed to exploit its members physically, psychologically, psychically, and financially. Does anyone else here know anything about or had contact with Damanhur?

I just scanned the wikipedia article. Apparently marriage for these folks is on a renewal basis. I don't know about other aspects but they have at least one good idea. Reupping for more years of marriage like one would for the military and having junctures where you can get out.

And digging and making weird ass underground stuff that disturbs the government is OK also. I think we need some modern chthonic cults. Have we had any since the Mithras folk at the beginning of Christian ascendancy?

I'm not looking for a monastic life atm but I've bookmarked them just in case.
