After browsing around these forums, I ran across someone suggesting a person take D-Phenylalanine as a natural pain killer with a possibility to give you a buzz. I had never heard of this stuff before, and quickly looked it up. This is genarally what sites say about it:

"D-Phenylalanine is the dextrorotory form of the amino acid Phenylalanine. The L-Forms (Levorotory) of amino acids are ones that are bioavailable and are for protein synthesis and regulatory function. The L and D forms are like mirror images of one another, however D-Phenylalanine is not absorbed into the body, but acts as an inhibiting agent to the enzymes that are responsible for the breakdown of endorphins, which control pain perception. "

So basically is helps prevent your body from breaking down your own pain killers, which could help you manage pain? I have chronic tendinitis in my right hand, something I cant do anything about because I dont have health insurance, and I cannot stop using my hand, because I'm an artist and I paint murals, so its how I make my living. Has anyone used this product before? Did they have any success? Does anyone know anything else about it?

I've heard and read that Endorphins act very similarly to Opiates so I can imagine it'd give you a bit of a buzz and some pain relief.

I don't see anything wrong with giving it a go, it sounds a lot healthier than the other legal highs recently. ;)

I have not heard of this, but you have piqued my interest, man. I am currently on methadone for maintenance, but due to my cancer I have a tumor on my spine in my lower back, which is pretty painful. The 'done helps, but does not adequately relieve the pain. If this were a successful compound in regards to analgesia, i'd most definitely try it out. I wonder how effective it would be in conjunction with methadone.

Anyone know more about this stuff?

Yeah, some of the other things I've read online said it can be used in combination with other pain killers, both opiates and non opiates to make them work better. But as slapdragon said, you will want to be careful about the amount you take. Of course this is all in theory. I am ordering a bottle online, and am gonna test is out. I would still like to hear any other reports of comments other folks have.

Please let us know how it goes if you decide to delve into it. I looked up a little and researched and it seems promising to some, but very new, so be careful. And will be waiting for your opinion!

Hey Guys, so I promiced I would update after getting some experiance with the D-phenylalanine (which I am going to call d-phen). I having been taking it for about two weeks now, atleast 500mg a day. I have definitely noticed my hand is not hurting nearly as often or as much when I am taking the d-phen. At first I wasn't sure, I thought maybe it was because the weather had been warmer( the cold makes it hurt way worse). However, yesterday I forgot to take any. Like clockwork at about 6pm, it started hurting pretty badly, which had not happened in awhile. And it was sharp pain too. While I was taking the d-phen, when my hand would sorta hurt, it was just a dull pain, and it wasnt so bad.

So it seems that is pretty helpful for pain manageress if you have some kind of chronic pain. I have cut the amount of Ibuprofen that I take in half.

I have not noticed any buzz when taking it by itself. I do think it enhances the buzz of taking opiates some. But I haven't mixed them enough to be sure. But if you were gonna take it with an opiate, I would take the d-phen about an hour before you take your opiate.

I'm gonna continue my use, and will update again after a few more weeks.

*Phen should never be combine with MAOI'S or SSRI'S or anything which will increase the levels of serotonin in the brain since it has a similar effect. It is also neurotoxic at 5000mg. Taken daily however it is suggested that it can help in some measure to safeguard one's mental health.
