Hi there, dihydrocodeine Co-codamol

First off I have to say I have been lurking these forums for years getting advice and help for a range of things and I can't thank you all enough, you have helped me in so many ways.

So, quick background on me, I am 27yr old male, I have R&R (relapsing and remitting) MS (Multiple Sclerosis) (not the be all and end all of my life, I get as much time fine and problem free as I do bad) and am prescribed various things for a variation of problems, I generally get Solpadol 30/500 (or cocodamol but I always ask for Solpadol specifically as they seem to work better better than generics) and also dihydrocodeine tartrate (30mg) for breakthrough pain (to stop me taking too many Solpadol and fucking my liver paracetamol wise) and various Benzo's for the muscle issues.

I consider myself very knowledgeable about my condition and about drugs in general (partly due to this forum) and am a recreational user as well as a medicinal one however I tend to ensure not to fuck my tolerance levels of ANYTHING just in case I have a bad time and need my meds and they don't do the job!

So, onto the actual query. I have run out my dihydrocodeine (tartrate, 30mg, which i use as and when needed when pain gets BAD) and am unable to get my script filled for another day or two and cant really get about as currently in a flare up and in a fair whack of pain, the benzos are sorting my muscle spasms but I need to opies to stop the nerve stuff (shooting pains, paresthesia etc) and the allowed does of 2x 30/500 Solpadol just isn't cutting it but I don't want to be fucking my liver taking extra paracetamol by necking another couple (I'm aware of the 4000mg per 24 hour limit but I still don't want to make a habit of high dosing paracetamol)

I found the details on CWE on here and decided to give it a go tonight after reading multiple threads on the subject and learning as much as possible on the subject, I have already done it and drank my dose so will be able to report actual results in a short while but I simply want to detail the process I went through and see if anyone can let me know if I have done anything wrong or anywhere I can improve or even if I've totally fucked it and am going to keel over in 10 minutes with liver failure.... any advice appreciated.

1. In bad flare ups I normally need at least 4 of the Dihydrocodeines or at least 2 cocodamol and 3-4 of the Dihydrocodeines at a time to get to a manageable level so really around 150-200 odd mg of opies to really have relief.

2. Given that I had read depending on how well you get through the process that you may lose a little of the good stuff I decided to try this CWE with 8 30/500 Solpadol tabs ( hoping to get at least 150mg roughly of opies for relief)

3. I filled a glass tumbler with around 90ml of bottled water (volvic) and placed it into the freezer. I though this amount would be appropriate for the amount of tabs after reading the solubility of each paracetamol and codeine in water and also the fact that when colder the solubility for paracetamol is lessened more.

4. I crushed all 8 pills up with rolling pin in folded over piece of A4 paper until completely powdered, this took around 5 minutes.

5. Removed water from freezer (my freezer turns shit to ice in seconds man so the 5 minutes was enough to really chill the water but not start to solidify into ice.

6. I poured all of the crushed pill powder into the glass of cold water and stirred vigorously for around 2-3 minutes to properly mix it through and then stuck it back into the freezer again (shit was like milk, I mean zero visibility through it at all)

7. Heres the kicker, its 02:30am here and I have no coffee filters, no kitchen roll or even decently absorbent toilet paper and no shop nearby to procure anything, no chance of me sleeping tonight without getting some pain relief. I had a look around the house and found a good quality new cotton t-shirt which looked tightly woven and also due to a medical issue my Mrs has we always have bandages and dressings etc lying around the house so I grabbed around ten of her 12ply Gauze swabs (the type for wound management, finely woven square patches) and stacked them on top of each other then soaked them through with tap water to saturate them up whilst at the same time wrapping the tshirt over the top of a cup and securing in place with a rubber band and soaking that through as well first and popped the swabs on top of the t-shirt so we are talking crazy layers of filtration here on top of the cup

8. Around 5-10 minutes later I removed the glass and could see a good layer of settled material at the bottom of the glass however the rest of the liquid was still really quite cloudy but given the amount of powder to amount of water I figured this was about right.

9. I poured the cup down into the filtered cup bit by bit and let it slowly seep through, took about 5 minutes in total then picked up the swabs, wrapped the top around like a little bag and gave it a squeeze to get more liquid out and that filtered through the t-shirt.

10. I had poured the solution into a glass and after this filtration it was still a little cloudy (now before it was thick milk) and now it was sorta cloudy lemonade style, could just about see through it and there was nothing settling on the bottom, but me being the paranoid person I am was a bit worried so I measured out the same amount of cold water into another glass, crushed one pill and stirred it through to see how cloudy that went, now that was cloudier than my filtered mix was so logic would tell me that my mix was safe and the paracetamol must have been removed well via my technique and there was a big clump of dry white paste left in the gauze ball (which I weighed cause I got OCD and it was around 3.6g, so surely that's really most of the paracetamol however there could obviously still be a little water in there adding weight) so all should really be good.

11. For good measure and standard paranoia I decided to just run it through another whack of gauze filters just to be sure and this time it came out less cloudy again (see through easily this time) but still not crystal clear like I see other peoples (researching on youtube vids and reading other reports)

12. Seemed to me that there was not much more to be done other than neck it, so down it went in one, ( a little worried it wasn't 100% clear) didn't mix it with any diluting juice or anything just slurped it down and drank a little milk afterwards to get the taste away from my mouth, as I'm finishing typing this up I can start to feel a little relief and a little of that well known "codeine warmth" but not yet feeling the level of relief of high that I would expect with this does (given I take care of my tolerance and only dose like this when required)

So, really just looking for feedback from people on whether I've done anything wrong or not and really other folks experience, if this does turn out to provide adequate pain relief then I will be happy as I do sometimes find myself out of the Dihydrocodeines nearing prescription day and only have solpadol left so being able to make real use of them is a bonus, plus the added opie warmth and high is always a good thing to cheer me up when things are a bit shitty :)

Sorry for the huge post but though I'd try and be as detailed as possible, I'll update if the effect strengthens any or just stays where it is (I may well have fucked up and lost allot of the good stuff during this process but I hope not).

Thanks for any anticipated responses and much love :)

So I'm still here, got a decent amount of pain relief but not the expected amount given the dosage, I must have fucked up somewhere a little.... maybe too much water first of all, as i assume that would have let more of the paracetamol through, but given the amount of water i used at its saturation point in 90ml I could have taken any more than 1g even if I didn't filter very well....

Still interested to hear anyone elses views though, how to get this purer and clear, or if I'm expecting to much from the dosage etc... was worth it for the relief as I say but not entirely pain free and not much of a buzz on the recreational side.

would you mind paraphrasing the entire post. only use information that is relevant to the question. and put clear cut questions at the end of your post.

i apologize i have to say this, but the modern human attention span is short, and you're more likely to get answers if you have a short, clean and concise post.

i've merged your two posts. kindly be reminded to use the edit function.

welcome to bluelight! :)

use 2ml/water per tab or so and use coffee filters! You can get away with using paper towels but they tend to break, leak and absorb to much of the solution to make it worthwhile for the long run. Coffee filters are cheap and easy to find, try the dollar store or bargain shops and they should have 100 packs for a buck. I use 2 coffee filters each time.

if you can store the solution in the fridge you can make a stronger solution by making 3-4 batches at once and each time reusing the CWE water of the previous batch to compound/concentrate the strength thus making 1 batch equal to 3-4. Kind of like how they make those instant canned juices where you add water to the desired sweetness. This may not be all that useful to you in the UK as you guys have no caffeine in your codeine products.

I only have experience with canadian codeine combination products that contain APAP or aspirin

Thank you both for your replies, baooozs i understand completely, I did actually try to edit but my browser was flaking out on me all it would do was reload the thread anytime I hit the button rather than give me the reply dialogue box so had to make a new post, and to you other point again I totally understand however I felt providing full reasoning as to what I was doing and complete detail into how I was doing it would give me a better chance of getting replies with information rather than the constantly seen (provide x information so we can give you an appropriate answer).

I guess I could have been clearer so to summise I was asking wether the process I followed was flawed in anyway and if anyone had any suggestions for improvements to it etc but thank you for your advice, a wall of text is always daunting I suppose.

doIhavePotential thank you for the reply, the 2ml/water per tab is a huge difference to what I used so thank you for that (I assume the reasoning is the less water then then the less APAP (named paracetamol in the UK) due to the solubility levels?) And I will pick up coffee filters however at the time of the post I had no access to a store and was in considerable pain, so I tried to A-Team it as successfully as possible.

Thanks for the welcome and the replies guys,

EDIT UPDATE:

Well, I tried again today using the exact same method as I detailed above however this time used generic brand "cocodamol" rather than the branded "Solpadol" as it was all I had left at the time and also changed the ml of water to 2ml per tab as suggested by "doIhavePotential", generally speaking when taking these pills orally as prescribed 2 at a time the solpadol tend to work better and provide more relief whilst the generics do not.

The reason for this update is that the solution came out 100% clear this time round after just one filtration and I was happy to drink it straight away and within 20 minutes the effects were felt and adequate relief was given, now I was unsure if the reason for the clear liquid after one filtration was due to the change in ml of water or the change in pills themselves so I aquired some more Solpadol from a family member and repeated the exact same procedure with the reduced amount of water again and the solution came out somewhat cloudy again.

I am adding this information as logic would dictate that there is some other "filler" in Solpadol causing the cloudiness as opposed to it being paracetamol (APAP) making it's way into the liquid, so for anyone else in the UK carrying out this procedure may wish to take this information on board that a CWE with Solpadol may remain cloudy but be completely safe as there is possibly an additional additive causing this however I cannot verify with any authority that this is the case, I am only presenting my findings with the procedures I carried out.

For myself I think I will stick with the generic's for CWE as the clear liquid makes me feel more comfortable and the Solpadol when only in moderate pain and a 60mg Codeine does would suffice.
