Hello,
I've just done a CWE on 32 8/500mg tablets (codeine/paracetamol).
I followed instructions to the letter, as usual, and, as usual, ended up with a cloudy finished product.
I drank the mixture, on the assumption (backed up by research) that the cloudiness was caused by inactive ingredients in the cheap pills I used.
The inactive ingredients are as follows: maize starch, povidone (Polyvinylpyrrolidone - a water soluable polymer), collodial silica, magnesium stearate and potassium sorbate.
The initial filtering yielded a massive amount of white sludge, and the subsequent two filterings yielded nothing: the fluid remained cloudy, but with no visible solids, even after re-cooling in an attempt to precipitate anything out.
I suppose i'm looking for someone to tell me i'll be fine really, chemically speaking there shouldn't have been more than ~600mg of paracetamol in the amount of liquid I was using without it being visible, and the liquid was left to stand in an attempt to precipitate more paracetamol out of the mixture without anything sinking to the bottom. Does anyone have any idea if any of the above inactives would taint the water and make it appear cloudy?
But yeah, summed up: CWE removed vast amounts of white sludge, and subsequent filterings removed nothing, am I being paranoid thinking I may have consumed up to 3-4g of paracetamol when nothing else precipitated out of ~60ml of water?
While I wait for replies I am going to sit in the sun. The extraction certainly yielded some codeine and I feel well again, so shame to waste a lovely day.
