All you users/abusers of cocaine/opiates/opioids...
What has worked/not worked to kick the monkey off your back for at least long enough to bring you back to the zero tolerance level?
Has anyone ever used ibogaine/iboga (powerful, scheduled , African hallucinogenic tryptamine) for withdrawl symptoms?

I was addicted to opiates and was told by my doctor I would never have a low tolerance again. Its now a few years later and I still have to have more then the average bear to get pain relief.

Cocaine isnt a narcotic, in fact COKE SUCKS,

now that i have my opinions out, you cant really cure an addiction per say, an addiction is psychological where you need this feeling or these effects to go on, or you will get seriously depressed or down about things, this is not the same as dependance, where you need the chemical to reverse a lack of it which is causing physical symptoms like pain and anxiety, "sickness" and the like, dependace is the one where you can go on and off easily if you taper down your doses, many people including myself are dependant on narcotics for pain relief, i need them so often that it has caused dependance. This has caused me to go into withdrawl a few times but thats not an addiction, thats being screwed over by my supplier.
Im not sure what all would cure an addiction, most people cant get rid of an addiction ever, circa 1900 people thought morphine was a cure for cocaine addiction, and heroin was a cure for morphine addiction and such other absurd ideas.
The truth is to beat an adiction you must no longer need that feeling to feel better usually, and sometimes because of physical changes you cant do that, as with cocaine, after so much use the dopamine receptors start to think "oh well we have coke all the time to make us feel better, why try and do it ourselves?" and as a result you get serious depression from going off of it. Mind you opiates dont really do that kind of thing, where you actually change your receptors, but they DO cause addiction and it can be hell trying to beat that.
I am not sure how effective ibogaine is to beat addiction, it wouldnt change anything physically, just mentally, so it may work for narcotics but coke is doubtfull.
I think to really beat an addiction you would need to come to terms with it and say ok, i need this to feel better, how am i going to replace what it provides me when i stop using it? some people use things like other drugs, which may work in fact, but isnt really an answer. If you can use a less expensive and less controlling drug such as cannabis in its place, by all means do so if it will help you stop, but most people dont like using other drugs to end drug addiction.
In the case of serious opiate addiction with dependance, there are places who will give out methadone to addicts to maintain them and let them lead normal lives, it may just not be possible to quit at all, and why should you? If this drug is leting you lead a normal life, why stop? the problem is cost and legality, and methadone is the key answer here because you are legally allowed to take it everyday if you get on a program, and many people do this and sucsessfully stop using street drugs.
It all depends on what you are addicted to, how severe, what your situation is, what you have available, and how willing you are to help yourself.
Anyone who needs help can contact me, im very resourcefull and can usually help out.
