Crusties v Cops

gutted I missed it, not to join in or anything just to watch ha. I think its a combination of squat eviction, tesco hate and people generally wanting to smash shit up, none of it really makes alot of sense, theres a sainsburys that got opened 200m up the road lol.

I can't imagine Tesco are shitting themselves. I think they can afford a few broken windows tbh.

Is the whole area boycotting the shop? If nobody spent a penny there they would have no choice but to shut down.

^apparently tescos open stores knowing they are going to make a loss just to monopolize the market. I'm sure loads of people will still use it though, its not even really directly competing with anyone. theres isnt any proper green grocers near apart from some veg at some of the off-lisenses which is generally a bit shit, and some expensive organic food and itilian shop which wont stop the people who go there. I doubt youll be able to get a can of super strength for a quid from the tesco either.

just went past the tescos on le bus, it's fucked

Stokes Croft did not need that Tesco. There are so many little independent shops that are going to lose business. There are already three tesco's within 2 miles of each other in Bristol. That part of Stokes croft is in dire need of a cash point that does not charge, but they didn't even install one! They were granted the licence to open (after LOOONG discussions/protests, as long as they didn't serve alcohol.

I was sat on the roof at the Telepathic Heights squat for a party earlier in the week when they were expecting to get evicted at 10.30am the next day. We left after people started throwing knifes down from the roof and lobbing bottles over to Tesco. It was obvious then that something was going to kick off. Protests have been going on all week, really peacefully. People offering free cakes to deter people from going inside.

My road was barricaded by police last night at around 10pm. I asked a police woman why they were there, she couldn't tell me as it was 'confidential'. It might not have all kicked off so badly had there not been such a heavy police presence early on.

If i'd not been a walking K hole after coming out of Lakota at 2am i'd have gone up to the riots, but I was brought home. Someone threw a water bomb at me, which woke me up at least!

Wouldn't be surprised, but I reckon it'll just be chancers tonight. Tesco has security on the doors 24/7, even before it opened.

The squatters who were evicted told me the other day that they already have somewhere else to squat, most of the violence was a result of the heavies going into the squat opposite the Tesco and removing them.

Seems pretty inflammatory of the cops to go in there in the evening time all mob handed. It is either the height on naiveity or a concerted effort to cause a disturbance.

I'm pretty pleased to see people kick off on Tesco too, they are a bastard of a company.

To be honest I quite enjoy it when the squatters types get a beating from the rozzers, I don't think the police were heavy handed at all, these people caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to private property and the police have exactly that duty, protect private property and if a couple of hippie skulls get cracked in the process, whatever.

Those misguided fools think they represent the community, I bet most of the people who are actually from that neighbourhood don't give a shit about the opening of the Tesco and half of those squatters are probably not even from there anyway.

If you don't like a chain store because you feel it will hurt local businesses then don't shop in there, it's that simple, if enough people share your belief then the store will go out of business, violence and chaos are not the solution.

Tesco can afford to run a frachise indefinetely at a loss, they do it,not to make money to drive out competition and maintain geographical monopoly over a community. They dont give a fuck if they run up huge losses that'd destroy a rival independent store. The vote with your wallet fallacy only applies to a tiny microcosmic model, when one in seven pounds in the UK are spent in their stores they can do whatever the fuck they want, clearly.

They bribe our councils by buying them police stations, hospitals and schools in return for lands they either shoudln't be building on or that the community dnt want them building on.

They cut job availability in the area by condnsing the infrastructure of a community into one perfectly streamlined fuckbucket of shite service and soulless 'convenience' (do we really want our butcher, grengrocer, OTC med supplier, fashion vndor, newsagent etc under the same veil? Do you not think that could lead to collusion? (not to mention the sort of anonymous, soulless, mechanised function of a production line that can drive every visceral experience into a flourescent, tannoy accompanied hell?)

They use modern day slave labour aroad, they squeeze our own farmers so hard they can barely make a fair crust, they sell SHIT food and dictate via their loss leaders products what we should and shouldn't consume...

They are a massive corporate cunt and are literally the plundering fucks that will bring about a dystopian future of the total fuckupery of humanity.

If you'd rather be on that train than one that acts as a community, syndicate and strives or sustainability, fairness and a sense of wellbeing for more than just yourself, then I guess, fuck you.

(That's not condoning violence, but it is conemning fuckwit mentalities that thinks 'cracking hippy skulls' is somethig other than totally cunty or one that would rather side with the old bill and Tesco than a bunch of people that are pissed off about the old bill and Tesco.)
