Crushed up ms kontin pill in mouth 15mg ER

I just got prescribed 15mg MS Contin. I was expecting a capsule but it was a blue pill. Anyway, as soon as I put it in my mouth, the entire thing broke apart.
What did I just do? I have a pretty good opiate tolerance.
 
They crumble pretty easily. Not sure if it destroys the release mechanism but it is still only 15mg of morphine so I wouldnt worry.
 
Thanks Kitty. Btw, my doc prescribed me this as an ER medicine. She didn't have a equalanalgesic chart around, so I think I accidentally got gypped.
I usually take Percocet 5/325, 4x ER day.
I think I should have gotten 30mg MS Kadin. I do feel a little relaxed.
 
I guess it depends on the chart but some have 20mg oxy equal to 30mg of morphine and some 60mg.

Just a quick look at the product labeling says that it very well may be possible to defeat the ER mechanism by chewing or crushing MS Contin (personal experience tells me so too, but that is just anecdote).

Kadian delivers half IR and half ER which may be beneficial but very expensive.
 
I have good insurance ;). The first time I had MS Kontin I was pretty euphoric. Now I don't notice too much. I might have a pharmacist call her if I don't think it's working. Took it an hour ago and don't notice too much.
 
Best ROA? Well IV of course but I believe even SQ and IM produce similar plasma levels as IV. Dont inject the pills though.

WGFJ and Tagamet. Not sure they will do much. Morphine is metabolized mostly by glucoronidation via an enzyme UGT2B7 and while there are inhibitors, dont think either of the mentioned does. Will have to check to be sure though.
 
I was a habitual injector of Kadian 100mg capsules. Your tolerance will skyrocket if you inject morphine. I was shooting 300mg a couple times a day...so just be careful with morphine. It is such a pleasant rush, without much wheels.
 
So if I chew up a 15mg ER tab, how much morphine does that release. I know just chewing doesn't necessarily defeat the time release, but any ideas?
 
It probably will defeat it, SK. Crushing is better most likely. Currently in the US, MsContin and the generics dont have abuse deterrance. Assuming you fully defeat it, 15mg but there may be some residual left in the matrix if not fully broken down.
 
Well 15mg is pretty weak. I am one of the few people who enjoy oral or nasal morphine but need 100mg minimum and really 200-260 is the sweet spot. But that obviously could be too much for many.

As far as euphoria goes. Well, it is really so subjective, I hate talking about it, but morphine gives me this warm, comforting, relaxing feeling I just dont get with other opiates/oids.
 
I agree. First, I can't/won't abuse these pills. Second, this is the dose I get, I'm limited/ no choice right now. I'll make the best of them.
