This is by no means the craziest thing I've ever thought while tweaking, not even close probably, but it IS the first thing that popped into my head;
About 15 years ago, I was out with a girl, had just IV'd around 0.5g of meth and got to talking about the placebo effect: Basically, it began in frustration that people that actually believe in bullshit woo "medicine" like homoeopathy may actually get a benefit from it, thanks to placebo - whereas, rational people, who understand that it's useless, will effectively get no benefit from it - as a result of understanding that it does nothing. Basically - there's a kind of paradox that means faith healing works, so long as you don't know that it doesn't actually work.
Anyway - I got to thinking, one of the easier ways to benefit from the placebo effect, is to have someone else convince you of the efficacy of the treatment. So rather than trying to self-delude that some bullshit hippy crap actually works, you convince someone else that they're taking real medicine, when they're not - the more they trust you, the better - you, once again paradoxily, 'abuse' that trust by convincing them that taking 'useless' medicine is actually going to help them. The more convinced you make them, the more benefit they'll get from the placebo.
Anyway - the real 'genius' of this tweaking theory came here - you eventually piggyback this, to become able to self-administer placebo like treatments to yourself, without actually taking anything at all. Basically - you first need to have have positive results with your test subject - see if you can cure a headache with some hippy crap, or see if you can get someone to 'feel something' from an 'ecstacy' tablet made out of APAP. Once you start getting results, you can then start 'deluding' yourself, having witnessed someone be cured of their headache and get high from pretend drugs, you can legitimately start applying these 'treatments' to yourself, except - you don't need to even administer the placebo, you just believe that the action is going to take place. The more results you see, the stronger your 'faith' - or conviction - of your own abilities grows. Until eventually, you've basically become a sort of personal-God to yourself - where you can cure your own ailments and get high from life itself, with nothing more than the belief, nay - the knowledge and certainty, that you can.
