I'm wondering why a lot of the news in the United States is filled with completely unfounded claims and accusations? Fox News is absolutely beyond anything that I personally can consider serious. It seems like the National Enquirer of news, along with other news companies. The fact that news companies like that exist makes me wonder, how it is legal to spew this fearful, paranoid misinformation?
You would think news is supposed to be factual, but some conspiracies that have recently been presented on American news include:
95% of scientists that agree that climate change is occurring and being accelerated by humans are lying because "global warming" is big money.
Global warming is a conspiracy to bring down the standard of living for Americans so the rest of the world can rise up.
Barack Obama is a racist and has a deep hatred for white people.
The democrats are trying to tax the poor for the benefit of the rich and are trying to turn America into a socialist state.
If anyone looks into any of these claims they would find they are unfounded without any credible sources to back these claims up. The only way to believe some of these claims would be to assume that all scientists and most of the aspects of government are lying to you.
It seems like a lot of American media, including a lot of the news, has become so sensationalized that there is no sense of journalistic integrity in the quest to get ratings at the expense of fact checking.
I always though America as a whole was more conservative and not as extreme, but the fact that these unfounded extreme conspiracy theories are rather rampant seems to suggest something otherwise.
I can only imagine how all of these conspiracies would leave someone paranoid, aggressive and fearful if they believed everything. If this is true, why would a lot of the media, and especially news companies like Fox News, try to keep the American public in fear?
I live in Canada and we get both Canadian and American news, and Canadian news is fairly balanced and usually there is evidence to support anything considered controversial that they cover. I'm assuming that is maybe some conspiracy too? I just don't understand the mentality and why people would be so paranoid. I'm wondering what people's opinion are on media throughout the world. I wonder if anyone has noticed the news in other countries seeming to consist of a fair amount of unfounded opinions and conspiracy theories.
I always wonder, how it is legal to represent such extreme opinions that are the staple of FOX News as fact on something that is supposed to be as trustworthy and objective as news?
If people disagree with me, I'm not trying to be harsh to the American public, al though I am critical of a lot of American media, and I'd love to hear people's thoughts and answers to my questions.
