Conspiracies In American News!

I'm wondering why a lot of the news in the United States is filled with completely unfounded claims and accusations? Fox News is absolutely beyond anything that I personally can consider serious. It seems like the National Enquirer of news, along with other news companies. The fact that news companies like that exist makes me wonder, how it is legal to spew this fearful, paranoid misinformation?

You would think news is supposed to be factual, but some conspiracies that have recently been presented on American news include:

95% of scientists that agree that climate change is occurring and being accelerated by humans are lying because "global warming" is big money.

Global warming is a conspiracy to bring down the standard of living for Americans so the rest of the world can rise up.

Barack Obama is a racist and has a deep hatred for white people.

The democrats are trying to tax the poor for the benefit of the rich and are trying to turn America into a socialist state.

If anyone looks into any of these claims they would find they are unfounded without any credible sources to back these claims up. The only way to believe some of these claims would be to assume that all scientists and most of the aspects of government are lying to you.

It seems like a lot of American media, including a lot of the news, has become so sensationalized that there is no sense of journalistic integrity in the quest to get ratings at the expense of fact checking.

I always though America as a whole was more conservative and not as extreme, but the fact that these unfounded extreme conspiracy theories are rather rampant seems to suggest something otherwise.

I can only imagine how all of these conspiracies would leave someone paranoid, aggressive and fearful if they believed everything. If this is true, why would a lot of the media, and especially news companies like Fox News, try to keep the American public in fear?

I live in Canada and we get both Canadian and American news, and Canadian news is fairly balanced and usually there is evidence to support anything considered controversial that they cover. I'm assuming that is maybe some conspiracy too? I just don't understand the mentality and why people would be so paranoid. I'm wondering what people's opinion are on media throughout the world. I wonder if anyone has noticed the news in other countries seeming to consist of a fair amount of unfounded opinions and conspiracy theories.

I always wonder, how it is legal to represent such extreme opinions that are the staple of FOX News as fact on something that is supposed to be as trustworthy and objective as news?

If people disagree with me, I'm not trying to be harsh to the American public, al though I am critical of a lot of American media, and I'd love to hear people's thoughts and answers to my questions.

there is no conspiracies when it comes to news...its just some news channels are for the left and some news channels are for the right...being biased to the left or to the right means they talk shit and skew the truth towards the opposite party. but conspiriacy no.

There are also alot of scientists who say whats going on now with the global warming that everyones so worried about is nothing to worry about at all.. theres two sides to every story, some news chanels report one side, others report the other

Of course there are 2 sides of the story, and there is evidence that global warming isn't much to worry about, but to go as far as saying that it is a complete hoax and there is no scientific evidence to back it up and to go as far as to say that it's a conspiracy to bring down the standard of living for Americans is not reporting one side of the story. That's pure speculation.

Am I wrong?

American news is the conspiracy. seriously i wish there was a page of facts on every morning what happened and didnt screw the media. i find myself more informed from browsing DiTM for an hour or two than watching the news everyday. as for global warming im not even going to fret.

....i could careless
please explain how you could careless. I don't think I could [adjective], at all.

on topic: fear fuels the hate and anger machine that generates money and support that the Republicans would otherwise have too short of a supply of to maintain their grip on the power system and the status quo in the U. S. A. poor people must be frightened into joining forces with their oppressors. it takes a lot of lie-based vitriol to propel the machine.

the american mass media is controlled by corporate interests just like most everything in this country. if you want real news, try to balance out your sources with independent outfits as well as reports from outside the states. tv programming here is a 24 hour sensationalized freakshow designed to entertain rather than teach - you'd be amazed at how much significant world news never sees the light of day on american television.

as for scientists "lying about global warming" 8) americans should really pull their heads out of their asses. does anyone honestly believe that the heedless way we have polluted and manipulated and abused our natural surroundings will have no effect on the planet? global climate change is a reality - the fact that corporations have once again found a way to capitalize on a movement doesn't make its basis any less authentic. it just means you have to be a little bit more discerning about what you accept as fact.

if you're looking for a conspiracy, it's that being "green" equals buying/consuming more shit.

One of the funniest things I've heard people say on TV is that "the main goal of public universities is to create homosexuals"8)

I actually heard that exact quote last night on public access tv last night. It was the opinion of a local minister during a town hall meeting. it totally made me lol...I have no idea how someone would come up with that idea. It wasn't a news show but still, worth sharing.

Or any of the whole "liberal agenda" seems to be a common belief among many.

This.

The Canadian news throws out conspiracies and lies too, for example......They try to make it seem like Hockey is a legitimate sport and equally as good as football. The lies are endless!!

Remember the Clintons insisting that there was "a vast right wing conspiracy to destroy [Bill]" and that it was the only reason why the media was playing up the Monica Lewinski scandal?

Sometimes there are conspiracies, sometimes they're people misusing the word when what they mean is something slightly different. Reporting on conspiracies, legitimate or manufactured, is usually done because of a media bias either in favor or against the proponants of the idea of a conspiracy.

Debating the person who agrees with a previous poster rather than the person who actually formulated a response is clearly only done because of a conspiracy to attack newer members. ZOMG conspiracy!

who cares if you dont like whats on your tv..change the fuckin channel

^^ I care about what the masses of the most powerful country in the world are being spoon fed.

I'd like to think that every intelligent minded person cares.
Regardless of whether I buy into it, I still care about how other people are affected.

I'm not going to witness people being brainwashed and be content to simply "change the fuckin channel".

Apathy leads to entropy
