Iv been on methylphenidate/Ritalin/Concerta for years. Im now on 180mg Concerta and it does nothing to me. Ive taken drug holidays and I suffer big time. I need more information on the use of L Tyrosine and magnesium in order to help tolerance.
It was discovered that administration of methylphenidate plus L-tyrosine lead to significant increases in dopamine levels compared to methylphenidate in isolation. L-tyrosine as a standalone supplement resulted in minor, yet significant increases in dopamine levels; enhancing the firing of dopaminergic neurons. Due to the fact that many individuals with ADHD are thought to have low dopamine and/or dopaminergic dysfunction in various parts of the brain ? perhaps L-tyrosine may reverse these abnormalities.
Further, it should be considered that L-tyrosine may provide therapeutic effect for individuals with less severe ADHD. Among those with severe ADHD symptoms, using L-tyrosine as an adjunct to a pharmaceutical medication (e.g. methylphenidate) may provide synergistic benefit, ultimately enhancing the therapeutic effect. https://mentalhealthdaily.com/2015/...its-unestablished-claims-scientific-research/
Methylphenidate plus tyrosine significantly increased extracellular levels of dopamine in comparison to drug alone. This effect was long-lasting, persisting into the post-treatment sampling period and peaking 40 min after the peak induced by methylphenidate alone. Tyrosine alone induced a small but significant increase in extracellular dopamine in the absence of any treatment to accelerate the firing of dopamine cells. These findings may have implications for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Study #1
One clinical study done by Mousain-Bosc and associates (Magnes Res, 2006 Mar;19(1):46-52) showed that ADHD children had lower levels of magnesium inside their red blood cells than children without ADHD symptoms.
Giving the children magnesium and vitamin B6 for 2 months resulted in less hyperactivity and better attention. When the magnesium and vitamin B6 were stopped, the ADHD symptoms returned in 2 weeks.
The typical dose used is 200 mg of magnesium and 10 to 20 mg of vitamin B6.
Study #2
Dr. Huss and associates (Lipds Health Dis. 2010 Sep 24;9:105) from Johannes Gutenberg-University in Germany monitored 810 children aged 5 to 12 who were given magnesium, zinc and omega-3 and -6 fatty acids over a three month period.
The conclusion?
Combining omega-3 and well as omega-6 with magnesium and zinc have a positive effect on ADHD and increased attention span and reduced behavioural and emotional problems. The results were seen at 12 weeks.

Dose to use
Experts suggest using 200 mg daily for at least 6 months.
