i need something bigger (24" is enough) to screw on a mobile stand and where i can connect my laptop OR my phone so i can either use it as a monitor (not for gaming) or to watch netflix stuff (no need for cinema experience)

now i was told a tv has more option, because i can connect speakers and consoles and even cable tv (go figure!) but to work a monitor is better.

what is your advice here?

which will you be doing more? how close will you be?

that may be a non-issue as, if you're connecting your laptop, you can connect speakers to your laptop.

also, most consoles have hdmi, with which you can find most tvs and many monitors.

i would need hdmi to connect my laptop.
i would be at about 3-5 feet away from the screen, depending on what i'm using it for.
to watch movies it would be to do it with this phone to tv thing because i think the quality would be better than having the movie run on the laptop and display on the monitor?

no idea, that's why i'm asking.

the reason for all this is i want to get the laptop off my desk, and don't want to have a monitor on it, either. because i need the space for my notes and diagrams (i do this all by hand)
i'm currently watching movies either sitting at the desk, or on my phone, which is not very comfortable and doesn't let me do other stuff like folding socks

which apps do you use to watch content on your phone? if you get a smart tv, it'll almost certainly have the same apps and you won't even have to screen-mirror your phone to the tv - you can just use your tv.

so, regardless of whether you get a large monitor or a small tv, where will the monitor/tv be?

i still think it comes down to which one you plan to do more of - computer work or tv watching - but my sense is a tv will likely be easier for you.

netflix. but i only have mobile internet and at least my mom's tv tells me it's not enough.
maybe because it's a big thing

it will be on a mobile stand so i can use it basically around the first floor of the house and the put it in a corner when i don't need it.
the stand can be adapted in height both for where the tv/monitor will be, and the table to put the laptop or whatever on.

ah, ok.

so your online internet connection is the mobile data on your phone from your mobile provider? in that case, screen-mirroring from your phone to a tv probably makes sense.

how do you connect your laptop to the internet? do you tether (local/personal hotspot) to your phone?
