Hi
Im planning on coming off speed after using it daily for about a year. im taking up to an ounce every couple of days and also smoking cannibis daily as well as cigatettes.
ive found in previous attempts ive stopped one but doubled the other. im wanting to try and stop all three, speed hash and tobacco.
Could this be harmful or dangerous to my body after so long of using. ive only been taking speed for a year but hash ive been smoking as long as i can remember. i really want to feel healthy again, i miss being able to play sports and excercise. Also on suppliment advice to make it slightly easier? i cant get a doctors appointment until next week but this has to happen now. i cant go on using anymore. im at a point where if i can stop now i can still live a normal happy life.

any advice or comments are much appreciated

No - stopping any of those drugs abruptly, while inevitably being quite unpleasant, will not be dangerous or unhealthy. If you truly want to make an effort to change your life, its going to take a lot more than just not using and if you don't make other changes and address the way your use/addiction has impacted your life, you'll probably just feel like shit mentally at the very least until you either go back or make substantial changes.

Most people can't quit a serious drug habit alone so if you truly want out, you might need some help.

thanks thats good to hear that its not going to be damaging to my health.

I know what your saying about getting help, i totally agree but ive got a very unusual situation which ive asked for advice on many forums over the last year and got nothing. i wont bore you with my long story, i feel like ive wrote it a million times.
in a nutshell, im in this alone this time, ive been an addict about 8 years on different things, my doctor knows thats why i want to speak to him but as far as coucilling and meetings go. its not an option unfortunatly. I know whats coming, and just hope someone watching over me can give me the strength to chose life.

thanks so much for your concern. i appreciate the advice,

wish me luck

We get threads like this almost daily - people insist on quitting on their own, ask for advice on getting through the withdrawals, are miserable for a few weeks because they aren't doing anything to change the situation and then their only means of support is gone and then they go back to using.

Unless you have a solid plan on how to manage the Post-Acute Withdrawal Syndrome (PAWS) and make the necessary changes to maintain sobriety and address the issues that lead you to using, the odds of this detox meaning anything at all in a couple weeks are pretty slim.

I'm not trying to discourage you or shit on your plan, but its something I see on here all the time. I'm studying addictions counseling so I'm intimately familiar with what it takes for most people with real addictions to actually achieve and maintain sobriety. If you ever would like to discuss any of this privately, please do feel free to private message me any time.

I have been told by several rehab facilities that nicotine is probably most addictive substance in the world. It might not be the greatest idea to try and stop that when there are more serious issues at hand.

Further, if you consume an ounce of meth every couple of days, your withdrawals will be terrible in my opinion if you go cold turkey. Might want to consider a taper of some sort.

^^^ I think the poster is from the UK and is not using meth, they tend to call amphetamine sulfate and other non methamphetamine types of stimulants "Speed", like dl,amphetamine aka Adderall here in pill form, and mostly the have plain old amphetamine sulfate, not meth in the UK, and from all I have read and been told it is usually only 5-10% amphetamine at that, so an ounce of 10% pure amphetamine sulfate is about 2.8 grams of actual amphetamine, and thats not even meth, so not to make light of the posters drug use, 3 grams or less of amphetamine sulfate (actual amount of amphetamine in an ounce if it's 10% pure) is not that large an amount really, it's not like doing a gram of crystal meth even per day, but the mental craving and so on will still be there.

I can honestly say I know zero about substances in the UK. I appreciate the illumination.

So, the withdrawals might not be that bad....

yeah, probably not be fun of course but it will not be like coming of meth binges or something..anyway I know a few people In the UK is how I know about the drug scene there, before I learned I was shocked to hear and see people talk about using a 1/2 ounce in a day or two of "speed" till they told me it's amphetamine sulfate that is usually 5-10% pure, so thats not as bad as meth by alot. but it still will have that mental craving..

You might notice stuff about your health that you'd been ignoring or the drugs had been covering up, but like peeps have said, quitting itself should not damage your health.

Good luck :).

progress update

Hello again, thought id give an update,

ive been completly clean from speed and ive heavily cut down on canibis smoking for 8 days now :) it was a horrible week but im through it now and everything is still going great. the last weeks been very challenging, i had to call the doctor a few days ago cause i was so anxious and in such a mood for no reason. even though i knew in my head it was coming and it was just a symptom i still couldnt relax. he prescibed 28 tabs of 2mg diazapam to take as and when i get like that. he made it clear it would not be a repeat prescription and to only use them when necessary. by the time i picked them up my mood had changed so their still unopened. At the moment im feeling great and every day seems better than the last. I know it could change tomorrow and im prepared for it. Reading back on this will help at harder times.

Hope your all well :)

Cane i sent you an email last last week, did you get it?

Nicely done.

You have a climbed a mountain that few can. It is also great that you did not take the diazepam in the process, even harder.

Keep it up. Try to lean on people you trust if you need support.

:)
