Collateral was excellent. The director, Michael Mann, has a great knack for photographing Los Angeles as well as injecting believable human stories into action/thriller movies. I am a huge fan of Heat, one of his earlier films, and Collateral is similar in many ways. A couple scenes in the movie are pretty long, like the beginning sequence in which Jamie Foxx drives Jada Smith to work, but devices like this help the movie pace to avoid common action film cliches (like 20 minute car chases or gratuitous slow motion fight scenes). In this way, the story is more engaging with action scenes that are more salient. The actors also all do a fine job.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!

I did not enjoy the ending at all. Maybe its just me but it did not have any suspense in the last 20 mins when Cruise is chasing Jada & fox to kill em cause I simply did not care about the 2 characters. If anything I wanted Cruise to kill em. When Tom had Jada in his sights in the office I was waiting for him to kill that bitch. The film was great but the ending was a tad uneventfull. I would have loved to have seen them both shot in the head. Cruise gets another taxi to LAX & goes back to where ever he went.
Might be Toms oscar role.......................but I think its too early to tell.

Apparently, I am the only person to have seen this movie. So I just wanted to add that the director's commentary on the DVD -- which was released last week -- is the best director's commentary I've ever heard. That is all.

i havent seen the dvd yet but went and watched it when it came out...anyway i thought it was an EXCELLENT movie
5 stars bitches =D

Good Movie, I love Michael Mann's style of shooting and continuity in his films, several big plot holes though and stuff that just did not make sense. Worth a watch, but it aint no HEAT that's for sure.

Yeah, nowhere near the calibre of heat but lots of fun none the less.

Goooood movie. I thought [spoil]Foxx was so going to get away when he was being escorted to the outside of the night club.[/spoil]

(Can't believe this thread hasn't been touched since 2004!)

Really loved every scene of this film. The intimate environments created by the slow-moving scenes are used well to give the characters nice depth. Foxx handles tense moments well which contrasts to the charisma of Cruise during the quiet ones. Using chaotic elements of the L.A. environment to change the pace of events was clever and smooth cinematography cemented the city as more of an active force than just backdrop. If you like neo-noir, this is definitely for you.
