Cocaine Coke Extraction

Hello Guys..

I am just curious to know uses of HCL. And want to rotate this safety suggestion everywhere as people have been suggested to buy patio cleansers to form crystals.

"People say you add 8 drops of 31% HCL to form coke crystals"

HCL acid, pretty good but what type do you use ? Available forms are 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% diluted or concentrated - All these are sold as patio cleaners which are Lab grade or research grade and so forth.

HCL acid used for medicinal purpose is "Food grade HCL" or HCL NF or HCL USP.

Could you use Hydrochloric acid NF / Hydrochloric acid USP to form coke crystals ? If so what concentration ? If NF and USP is not available, then what HCL do you suggest people to get ? because patio cleaners are not ment for human consumption.

Extraction from what? Surely not from coca leaves, because to extract significant quantities you need mountains of leaves, and you don't have that unless you live in the SA jungle, in which case you know how to go about it.

I suspect you mean extract from base. To precipitate coke you need the purest HCl you can find. Any water present will dissolve the coke because coke is very soluble in water. And you need to perform the crystallisation in anhydrous acetone (because coke is not soluble in acetone and will precipitate in it as it forms). Anhydrous acetone + anydrous HCl = difficult to procure these days without priviliged access to chemicals.

Reagent has "Hydrochloric Acid 10% w/v USP" I don't know what this w/v is ? but USP stands for food grade, which is what everyone might be looking for. Lab grade is not meant for human consumption. But then do you think the rest 90% will be water. If yes, there must be a way to remove water from this 10% HCL - or some other way around.

Hey Jay, the w/v is a fancy way of writing weight per volume. So in units it is grams per milliliter. Also, the NF and USP respectively stand for National Formulary and United States Pharmacopia, which basically means it was developed for the use in medicine and is a nationally and internationally recognized standard (no contaminants). I can't tell you must about the recrystallization, but if you're IV'ing, you can always just add dropwise ascorbic acid (vit C) or citric acid to dissolve your "hard". Hopefully this helps somewhat in the understanding of those abbreviations

1kg of leaves gives 1-5g of pure cocaine.

Extracting cocaine from coca leaves or coca tea is not that easy. Hydrochloric acid is only used to form the cocaine-salt, but you need cocaine freebase for it. You can't do anything to regular cocaine with hydrochloric acid than destroying it or making it highly toxic and acidic. Don't do anything when you don't know what you're doing. You can wash cocaine with an acetone wash, just search for it. That's easy to perform for an amateur. Of course, chemistry-freaks have much better procedures for cleaning/extracting cocaine, but the acetone-wash is pretty good.
