Opioids Codeine CWE: To crush or not to crush?

Hi, I know CWE's have been done to death, but I cant find any solid info on this one. I have done many successful CWE's, and I always crush the pills as much as possible. I am using panadeine Extra, which contains 15mg codeine phosphate and 500mg paracetamol.

While the vast majority of CWE methods suggest crushing the pills, I have read just a handful that say that the codeine can be damaged by crushing. Also I recently dissolved one pill in water, and I noticed that the pill broke apart into tiny granules, almost like sand, rather than to sludge like when they are crushed and placed in water.

I wonder if it is totally unnecessary to crush them, and by doing so it is just making it much more difficult to filter, as the sludge just blocks up the filter straight away? Also, when they are crushed, a lot more water remains in the sludge, and none of us can be bothered waiting a week for all the water to drip out of the blob.

If anyone has any thoughts on this matter I would love to hear them.

Crushing the pills ensures that all of the codeine is allowed to dissolve into the water. If you don't crush the pills then you lose efficiency because there will be undissolved codeine tied up in the little 'granules'.

Codeine cannot be damaged by mechanical forces (crushing).
