I realize there's plenty of threads regarding CWE, more exactly 113 results with "cold water extraction" in the thread title. And it is possible my question isn't answered anywhere in those 113 threads. So I thought the best decision was to make a new thread, if that was the wrong decision I apologize.
Anyhow, I have a choice to choose (legally) between two different Paracetamol/Codeine manufacturers. I checked up the differences between the excipients (I think this is what it is called, basically the other 'not mentioned' "help-substances) and there's some differences actually, to me they look quite major.
Wouldn't the manufacturer with less of these excipients be easier/better to do a Cold Water Extraction on rather than the one with more excipients?
So the two I have to choose from are both Paracetamol 500mg and Codeine 30mg and the excipients are as follows.
Manufacturer #1 contains (and is the most common one in my country, the one I was prescribed but a service makes it possible to change to another manufacturer with the same active substances and the same strength and is also the most expensive one): microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, magnesium stearate, colloidal silica and finally water.
Manufacturer #2 contains (this one I had never heard of but is a bit cheaper than the first one): corn starch, stearic acid, povidone and magnesium stearate.
Bare in mind that I have had to use Google Translate for these substances.
So what do you guys think, which one should I choose? Most commonly Manufacturer #1 is the one people are do CWE on but maybe that's because it's the one being prescribed mostly. If you go to a pharmacy you don't get the choice to choose a cheaper one with the same active substances and the same strength but I choose to buy it online (still, legally using a method identifying myself as me) and that webpage has a service where you can choose a cheaper one.
Like I mentioned earlier, to me it sounds more logical that doing a CWE on something with LESS excipients would make the final result cleaner. But I guess that also depends on what excipients are in the medicine. Hopefully someone here knows a little something about the chemistry behind the excipients. But still, the major reason you do the CWE is to get rid of the Paracetamol, I guess the it could be that the excipients doesn't really matter at all, or they do.
Have a great day!
