Anyone have any experience or stories regarding Berlin's nightlife?
I moved here about 5 months ago and have been really enjoying the club lifestyle. I knew Berlin was famous for its clubs but I never really knew or cared why until I saw it for myself. When I heard about the way Fabric got shut down in London, I saw in Berlin a stark contrast. A really healthy, thriving scene where clubs are aplenty and take the form of grown-up playgrounds.
Like Griessmühle, a converted corn mill in the middle of Sonnenalle, as well has having two floors for dancing has a crazy outdoor area with tunnels and a maze erected out of scaffolding and tarpaulin that is super fun to explore and really hilariously confusing when you're fucked. It also overlooks a canal, where you can watch the sun rise in the morning and wave at the tourists floating past on catamarans.
Sisyphos is another I've been to that has a fucking beach, cafe, grand piano, and pizza stall all in its vast outdoor area. The building itself used to be a dog food factory and upon walking inside you enter some sort of techno inferno.
And they're open for 3 days straight, from friday to monday morning, which means that once the night is over, people filter out to the outdoors areas, smoke some weed, eat pizza and chills to downtempo music. Being open for 3 days also means that you can go clubbing at 11am on sunday morning, or 2pm on saturday, whatever. Got work sunday morning? No worries, head to the club at 9am saturday and blow out in time for bed. It's fucking genius.
These clubs also have house drug dealers who are very friendly, open, and reliable. People don't hide their drug use here, and there is no hired security, and the result is a relaxed, tolerant environment where drug use is expected and allowed to take place. If a city council gives its clubs a chance to flourish, instead of constantly battling against them, wonderful things will happen.
But there are loads more clubs here. These are the two I know. Anyone care to share some sentiment? Who's been to Berghain?
