Clonazepam and Methadone is it safe?

I am on Methadone maintenance (100 mg/day). I was given a Klonopine; I have never taken them before. I tend to be sensitive to benzos for example I can snort 30-40 mg at a time of oxy no problem: but 5-10mg of valium will put me out. I do not know the strength of this pill but I can find out; it is blue green with an M on one side and a c slash 14 on the other. My question is: is this a safe combo and how much to take on top of 100mg methadone?

I just went on the web and this pill that I was given does not look like Klonopine. I have to check this out before I do anything.

I have changed the name of the title of your thread to make it clearer that you mean clonazepam/klonopin, the benzo.

In answer to your question, it is always going to be dangerous mixing two CNS depressents, if you are going to take the combination then start of with the smallest possible dose of clonazepam just to be careful. I don't have personal experience mixing the two, but there is definitely a risk mixing two sedatives, especially as you say you are very sensitive to benzos.

Thanks for the help and advice! I have found out and I do have a generic clonazepam/klonopin 1 mg.

this put me in a resus ward. With Heroin however not methadone... And way too high a dose. I lost days of my memory. Good times. Ended up in a 46 day psych ward stay :)
 
Yes it can be dangerous, especially given the long half life of both methadone and clonazepam/Klonopin. I'd not bother if you aren't too fussed, but if you really want to then start with 0.25mg (so 1/4 of a pill) one day and don't redose, see how you go with that. Even the thought of that is making me anxious actually, as 0.5mg is a fairly standard dose for a lot of people on clonazepam and if you are sensitive to benzos plus you are on methadone..

If you took the diazepam with your methadone then 5mg diaz = 0.25mg clonaz, so you can get a rough idea of it's potency there.

I'd personally never mix methadone with benzos, but then I am not on a methadone script so I don't have the tolerance you do..

Basically, we can't tell you how you will respond, just warn you of the risks and give you an idea of how strong clonazepam is compared to diazepam. The conversion chart is in my sig. Take it steady and good luck. I'm going to close this now, any problems shoot me a pm.
