Okay so apparently I'm *NOT* supposed to wash this pillow. I'm supposed to remove the cover, and "roll it like a sleeping bag, unroll, then re-roll the other way".

WTF?? I'm kind of grossed out at the idea of not being able to clean it, since the texture is basically that of a magic eraser made from rubber.

Could anyone with tempur stuff (or memory foam in general if it's close enough, i dunno but think it's pretty much same thing) tell me what they do? I guess, at the least, I'm gonna spray it with lysol and leave it in the sun (it's still 80's / sun here :) ) if i'm unable to actually put any fluid/cleaner through the thing.

Water will cause the tempur material to break down and almost any cleaner is harsher than that. I do agree its kinda odd, but the best thing is just to keep your pillowcases well laundered.
 
well..damnit.

okay, my backup plan was to kinda give it a light misting of lysol, and then leave it in the sun and/or light dryer cycle. just to "sterilize" a touch. will that kill it too?

am in love with my pillow, but it needs to be cleaned..
 
You should get a case for it that will protect it from any kind of liquid, and then you put your pillow case around that.

yeah, tempurpedic materials are super duper weak when it comes to getting dirty. if you get it wet, it will mold and kill you. that's why people who have tempurpedic beds put them in plastic covers and then put sheets over it. protect that investment bro.
 
honestly, the very fact that it's at the point i feel it needs a cleaning, is what would stop me from just sealing it up.
please tell me the mold/kill you comment was a ridiculous overexaggeration. invisible things (airborne mold, fiberglass particles, whatever) freak me out.

i'm just gonna do the roll-out thing and leave it on top of car for a while in teh nice, 80+ sun. hopefully it doesn't melt into a brick :|

i've been doing the "roll" thing like every half hr., it's holding up fine (admittedly it's like half-overcast today tho).

will do it in full sun for sure, because now i'm actually getting paranoid about sleeping on it w/o sealing it with a trashbag or something..
 
If germs-mold-dustmites are a concern just throw it away like I do with a dollar store pillow. Then buy a new one.

Most important to change pillowcovers frequently. Use a little bleach when laundering them with warm water.
 
your dollar store pillow is easier to just toss than a tempurpedic.. i wouldn't purchase a new one knowing it can't be washed, will just go with down next time.

damn, u guys got me all freaked out because my bf has a tempurpedic bed. i just asked and he said it has a plastic cover around it. i guess there's another softer cover on top of that, i had no idea. i was thinking it would be loud and crinkly like the covers people put on kids beds when they're bedwetters.

No, not at all. The outter layer is soft padded material, but the inside is entirely made up of a very thin rubbery plastic. The pillow case goes over that, and there are no crinkly noises at all or anything when resting against it.
I have one of these protective sheets over my tempurpedic mattress that I clean whenever I clean my regular sheet that I put over the protective one. It prevents any liquids from getting through and down to the actual mattress. It hasn't let me down yet!

i've been "rolling it" and leaving it in the sun for days (yes, i take it in at night). your comment has me afraid to use it tho lol.
 
Just go to Amazon or Google and search Vinyl Pillow Cover. Put that on and you will be fine. Then put a normal pillow cover on it.
 
My concern is that the thing is a ticking time bomb lol - are you saying the vinyl would basically seal-in any potential nasties inside?

/prolly just grab a new one, they have knockoff's that're great quality and super affordable now :)
