Today i went to a clinic to get something for my ever rising anxiety.

The first place i went too the dr didnt even address my anxiety and focus on the fact im having trouble sleeping (even tho its my anxiety that causes this) and wrote me a script for some sleeping pills, which i am not for at all, so i managed to get a few weak clonazepam's from her as i have used them as a sleep aid before.

So i went to a second dr and she actually focused on what i was there for and was asking lots of questions about it and doing her job, so she wrote me a script for citalopram (which i have never heard of before and had no idea what it was) which i went and got filled right away cus i felt like she was really trying to help.

Upon arriving home I wiki'd it and they are an anti depressant (yes i have depression on my chart)...

So im wondering if anyone has any experience with these, if so is this gunna help or am i gunna end up overly happy go lucky?

Thanks for the input.

Citalopram gave me insomnia, increased my anxiety, and made me VERY moody and mean.

I didn't have a good experience. The SSRI class does not agree with my brain chemistry.

hmm those are all things im trying to fix, how long were you on it? the doc said for the first few weeks it can increase the symptoms until the body adjusts so well see... Ill probly end up getting the clonaz filled tomorrow anyways just to have on hand, but that doc likely wont do a full script, when i said ive been on them before her face instantly turned and first words out of her mouth were "those are very addicting"

SSRIs have always helped elevate my mood. If it wasn't for SSRIs, I would never experience *any* level of happiness. Unfortunately, that's just how my brain is.

Give it 1 month! Monitor your mood and monitor side effects. Report these back to your GP.

Good luck and I wish you all the best :)

Thank you!

I forgot its my birthday party this friday... any known interactions or anything in specific to avoid right now till my bodys adjusted? or somewhere i can go to check this?

This is pretty much my fathers experience with the drug which he quit after a few months. Brain zaps, strange electric pulsing feelings in his face/neck/head and intense jaw clenching.

That being said, citalopram can have bad interactions with MAOI's leading to possible serotonin syndrome. It is also suggested not to drink alcohol while on it, though I am not sure how dire the situation could turn out. My father drank a few beers every now and then while on it... He is fine. He also was able to take benzos and opiates.

as ive mentioned before, i had an episode on citalopram in which i broke in my front door with my head, at about the 45 day mark of using citalopram.
that is my personal experience with the medication, and everyone is different. as far as the other effects, the first few days i was loopy, the next month i was a zombie, and after the episode i flushed the rest of my pills.
i was perscribed these kinda in the opposite way you did, my sleep cycle determines my anxiety levels, so i went to the doctor for insomnia, and he diagnosed it as depression instead of insomnia.

i am not a fan of SSRIs. doctors really seem to enjoy pushing them on the public at large. i told my doctor i downright refused to take anti-depressants and that is how i got on clonazepam (which manages my anxiety quite nicely at just two .5mg doses per day). that is my two cents. me and SSRIs do not get along.

I was on it for 60 days. I figured I'd give it a shot to see if it would get better and if the initial symptoms would "wear off", but it didn't. I've tried SO many SSRIs but they just do not work for me. My doctor is now trying to see it SNRIs work for me better, but so far I'm not having a great time with the Effexor either.

It's all trial and error but I REALLY hope that you can find relief from this!

thanks for all the input everyone. it really seems like it really depends on the individual person. I started today at a 10mg dose and am definetly feeling a little bit jittery or even unstable might be a better word if you know what i mean, but no real anxiety (big diffence from this morning) and a little bit spacey but not that bad at all.
