Anyone else here the child of addicts? Even in pain, I have to take multiple doses of medication. Why is this?

Does child of alcoholics count? I guess if you're mother was using opiates while she was making you, then you could just have a natural tolerance. A lot of people have natural tolerances without having parents as addicts to. I generally have a higher tolerance for most substances as well though, so I suppose it could be connected.

Me 3! Yes, my moms and alcoholic/drug abuser. All 3 of us ( My 2 brothers and I ) ended up with opiate / other problems. We all had a natural tolorance as well. My oldest died from it. My brother is doing bad. I detoxed a little while ago. i feel good but not too excited both of my brothers detoxed and did the rehab thing numerous times.
To answer your question, sometimes people are born with natural tolorance. A Girlfriend i once had , she had it even worse than i did. I started out with oxy, she took 10,nothing, 20, nothing, 30 and she finally got high. Weird for someone with NO tolorance. So some of us are just born fucked with natural tolorance and prone to addiction.

Ditto. My mom is an alcoholic and has lots of tolerance problems that I apparently inherited - I'm resistant to opiates, sedatives, and painkillers in general. When I have surgery, I need more anaesthetic than most people, and for pain afterwords, I need high doses of hydrocodone, and oxycodone doesn't do anything but make me constipated. It's a big pain in the ass because doctors would rather just bump you up to oxy than give you extra vicodin. It's just something I've learned to deal with...
It makes sense though. The people that are tolerant are going to need more drugs to get high, and when you take high doses of drugs frequently you're more likely to become an addict.

my mother was on amphetamines and barbituates when pregnant w/ me. i've always developed tolerance very fast. i never really got many answers to questions and for good or bad i'm sure there has been some effect.
