Chicago To Eliminate Mini Drug Bags

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Aldermen have given preliminary approval to an ordinance that would ban the sale or possession of tiny plastic bags often used by drug dealers.

WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports the City Council Health Committee has okayed the measure

The bags are two-inch, sealable, plastic and stamped with little logos, like hearts, spiders or superhero symbols. And 2nd Ward Alderman Bob Fioretti says, in his area, they’re used to hold crack cocaine and heroin. Many are decorated with little logos that police say identify the kind of drugs contained within.

One Alderman previously questioned suggested some of the bags have a legitimate use, like holding extra buttons for clothing. But, Fioretti says it’s clear what the ones found strewn across city parks are used for, and the Council must do what it can to thwart the users.

"Well gee wiz man, I'd sure love to sell you that crack, but I don't have anything to put it in. Darn the luck!"

Hmmm.... I know I bought a drug last night but I can't remember what it was.... did I get the heroin or the coke? I wish I could remember cause they look so much alike I can't tell the difference.... Oh wait.... thats right... It has the superhero logos on it so that must mean it was the blow.... It sure is a good thing those logos were on there so I could identify my drugs....

WTF!? Goddamn these cops are fucking clueless sometimes..

Shit they tried to ban selling blunts near where i live, but not in suburbia only in the ghetto. Every store still sold them. Where there is demand there will be a supply, or they will just sell there shit in tied up piece of plastic bags just like anyone else who ran out of bags.

I don't think you guys see the significance in this ordinance ... the possession of them is illegal. So theoretically, you could have an empty plastic bag and that could lead to a search of you, your vehicle, etc. ... I know that would probably happen anyway, but this way it would stand up in court.

theres places by me that sell the brillo lighter and rose stem all in one bag.. I doubt the little baggies are gunna have much effect

^Crack-packs!

Back when I lived in Alabama, they sold crack packs at convenience stores in the shadier parts of town.

Shit, I've even seen brillo pads and lighters in vending machines.

But no, lets crack down on the little baggies. Those are the real culprits. 8)

Yep. Now instead of small ziplocs strewn about the parks/ streets, there will be vials, or lotto tickets, or balloons, or corners of bigger bags, etc etc etc.

If I was a Chicago resident I would be pissed they wasted time/ money on such a stupid ordnance.

that was funny as hell . I mean jeeze some dealers in jersey dont even give you a bag thats ure problem . They just through that shit in your hand . Always carry celophane .

I really dont understand the mindstate of the out of touch people that design these laws. this should stop people from selling drugs8) or will they just use different bags because those arent available anymore? oh wait..... they can buy them over the net for half the price.
great job guys!!!! :\ GREAT USE OF TAX $$$$

This seems like a law that would have been introduced in some conservative southern city.
Not Chicago

& ive always bought mini CLEAR bags @ Hobby Lobby. Are they gonna eliminate those next??? If i were the management @ Hobby Lobby I would be stocking up on clear mini ziplocks

I mean in truth it is just something to make them look like they are taking action so that they can sleep at night. It isnt really going to do much and they know it deep down. As long as there are drugs to do, the reward triggers that addicts have will make them find a way. No crack addict will stop fiending when he cant find a bag. Its political thats all.

I imagine that people will get into the business of going to indiana and bringing back the baggies to sell to people that run the spots or other dealers that use a number rather than a spot no doubt. That or dope will go all foils and caps instead of just maybe a third foils a third capsules a third bags.

BINGO! This is just another tool to give police total discretion in who to harass and arrest. I would be shocked if clothing stores in Chi-town ever stop selling clothes with little zipper bags of extra buttons, it will just become another item thats illegal for some. Just like paraphernalia laws that are more about who owns the item then the actual item.
