The acid probably cured his alcohol addiction.

I always LOVE to say bill wilson founder of AA is one of my dogs in my book and go on to say how he hailed acid as his fix for addiction and his late life medicine, psychedelic medicine pioneer it universally doesn’t go well with almost all die hard 12 steppers especially once they realize it’s true even if it was legal too during that time

From the things I've read, I believe that LSD did help Bill Wilson overcome his alcohol addiction, and that the 12 step program he came up with that was at least partially illuminated by his LSD use, but I've never come across the smoking gun quote or citation that really puts the nail in the coffin about this - like I don't think he ever openly "hailed acid as his fix for addiction", although I would like to think that he did. Have you ever found definitive proof @LSDiesel ?

Cary Granite? (sorry saw a recent Flintstones episode)

You all know me, if a person is not around to defend himself I steer away from criticism. I am glad he publicly stated the benefits. I may have used this story 50 years ago to convince my parents LSD was good.

As far as bad to his wife, are we talking about Diane Cannon? When I read her comments I also thought to myself the man is not around to defend himself. Not cool. Felt the same way when Mackenzie Phillips wrote that book on her dad John Philips. My isssue, I seem to defend the dead simply because they can not answer to an assault that may or may not be true. People can be weird. I can’t say what is true, just that a lot of people make up a lot of stories.

it's true, the absent are defensible, but also I can see that he would be hard to confront directly.
an amusing but volatile character.

Yes, Diane Cannon. And you can't seriously defend Papa John. He shot his own daughter up with smack and banged her on multiple occasions. He was also a drugstore cowboy and dealer. You guys should read his autobiography 'Papa John.' It's actually an excellent read.

I’ve read Papa John several times when it first came out. I got the idea that there was some bragging going on too. And John did admit shooting up his daughter. He said as much. But I don’t recall him saying he banged his daughter, and he was such a show off at that time I believe he would have. Who knows. I remember when the book Papa John came out. I had a friend, dealer. that lived under the Santa Monica Freeway that knew some of the players in the pharmacy. It was around the same time Jesse Ed Davis (totally underrated guitar player) overdosed. I just remember him telling me some stories. Just drug stories really.

But I guess if we’re gonna call anybody indefensible papa John seem to have put himself in that category. But again, if someone’s gonna throw out a horrible accusation at somebody it shouldn’t come with a book tour and come after the person is dead. My opinion, of course. The whole tabloid aspect is a turn off Then again Papa John did some similar sensationalism in his own book.
