I'm stuck in a bind deciding between whether I want to pursue an education in sociology or an MA in some sort of eastern philosophy/religious philosophy. I am interested in in sociology, and I realize it's the option with the most potential careers and more choices down the road. But my heart lies in philosophy blended with religion. Alan Watts has been a stupendous influence on me, I listen to his lectures almost daily and read his books. Everything he says strikes a chord with me... And the concepts of Buddhism and Hinduism in their varying forms resonates with me like no western religion or philosophies have. It's where my heart lies and the concepts of the philosophies and watts's lectures answer many observations and thoughts i've had about the world and the human condition, they really resonate with me. But i'm afraid of financial failure and the downfall of a "useless" degree...
