you and I will always know
Sup guys. Ok so a buddy of mine says he's been diagnosed with this disorder.

I did a little research and pub med has case studies in Australia. Apparently people who smoke too much for years at a time can develop this, problem is my buddy is a bullshit artist and sometimes makes shit up to see who believes him.

Anyways pretty interesting really. Symptoms include vomiting and as weird as it might sound compulsive bathing. Yes bathing, whether it be a hot shower or bath, during the peak of the symptoms victims feel compelled to bathe themselves.

Well now this is in another friends head and he's saying he showers a lot sometimes and yada, yada, yada. I'd just love to hear bl's expiriences with this if any. There really isn't a lot of info on it and any expirience especially personal would be great. All in all it seems like a toxic level of cannibinoids causing the person hyper sensitivity to weed thus resulting in vomiting and somehow the bathing.

Plus anyone else even heard of this? I hadn't until today, well yesterday on 4/20 of all days.

I know right. The bathing thing just sounds ridiculous. Something about the warmth... Idk. Its just weird I got a lot of hits with references to back em up.

I know a lot of us smoke a lot. There must be some rasta out there with some kind of expirience with this if its true. Willy Nelson? Snoop Dogg? No one from the dam?

compulsive bathing behavior?????LOLOL - I mean I do enjoy soaking in a warm bath - I gotta call bs on this one - last I heard cannabis had neuroprotective properties8)

sometimes when i get really high I get cold so a warm bath is comforting, but by no means a necessity/compulsion...

It's not compulsive bathing:

"The syndrome is characterised by nausea, stomach pain and bouts of vomiting - ill effects which, oddly, sufferers say they get some relief from by having a hot shower or bath. "

this is the first ive heard of this negative effect of cannabis and i still gotta call bs....

That makes sense to a point but, I didn't get any info on stomach pain and what I read on pub med said the baths were due to the brain not processing something right and person getting relief from a cold feeling. Ill post some links tomorrow, I gotta go to bed but its weird either way. I'm gonna have to check again but the vomiting and bathing seemed to be the only reported symptoms in the studies I read.

That's weird man. I use weed to help me NOT vomit, and get nausea, and so do many other people. I mean I guess people can have opposite reactions to the same drug after prolonged use, but this is just really weird.

there was just a big thread about this with some article in it that people were saying was BS......but apparantly its not.

Im no expert, but this person may have some underlying disorders that are exacerbated by mj. Just a guess.

Um did you read the link I posted? I could care less whether this dude is bullshiting me or not, I do find the topic interesting. I'm in no way attacking weed, I'm a daily smoker for over 10 years. Just someone read the article, pub med is a pretty reputable source, I'm not saying its true or false but interesting and certainly meriting a read by habitual smokers.

Here's a link to a thread on the same topic in ADD. Like my post in that thread says, I would first suspect some adulterant, likely a by-product of some sort of aid in cultivation (pesticide, herbicide, plant food) to be the culprit. If that proves to be false i would imagine some sort of endocannabinoid disorder that, upon ingestion of a cannabinoid, exhibits the converse symptoms. Kind of like the dopamine disorders that are treated with amphetamine salts or methylphenidate.

New theory on cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome

Thanks any major dude. The small isolated group in the article I posted seemed a bit suspect. An adulterant in the weed itself makes a lot of sense. Good looks on the link as well.

The only thing is in the pub med article the patients symptoms started again after quite a bit of time in some cases. It just seems unlikely that someone would regularly come across the same adulterant. With the limited info we have we can only guess.

huh thats pretty interesting. never happened to me but i just thought i should mention, when i get high taking a hot shower is very enjoyable and relaxing- im usually a little bit on edge when i smoke ( anxiety ) and when im in a hot shower its just really relaxing and takes some anxiety away. <---- holy shit that was a long run-on sentence!

Sounds to me like a hand selected correlation.

There are a number of necessary bits of information missing from this article.

Give me cold-hard-facts

Give me cannabinoid quantitative values

I want to see serious discussion of receptors and synapse evaluations before holding too strongly on any validity.

Yeah, I thought the same thing, but if someone's getting weed from the same source, or a large grow operation (or even growing technique) in the area uses the same methods, thusly affecting several retail level sources, the same adulterant could easily show up multiple times.

I'm also interested in any underlying disorders, other pre-disposing conditions, or any similarity between people experiencing this. The only people i've known to have a reaction like this to cannabis were two bipolar females. One was on medication for the disorder, and one was not. They happened 8 or so years ago, several months, or possibly a year apart, obviously with different weed. The pot on both occasions was cheap, mass produced, and condensed. As this is anecdotal, it isn't really that much help, but certainly piques my curiosity.
