Cannabis and bowel movements

A little about me first. I am a mid 40s male that has been a pothead for about 25 years. I will smoke flower daily for long stretches with no breaks. I live in the SE US so supply issues sometimes force needed, but unwanted breaks. I admittedly have only limited control over my use of cannabis. I only smoke after work. There is no going to work high during the week, but if I have it, I'm going to smoke it after work everyday, and generally all day on the weekends. Its almost always flower, I generally don't use edibles or concentrates. With that said, over the last few years, I am noticing a very strange change in my bowel movements when I don't have cannabis for a few days.

Essentially it seems that cannabis use is causing bowel constriction. When I'm smoking cannabis I don't pass gas. Almost no flatulence whatsoever. My bowel movements will be small, and accompanied by a lot of gas. It will take multiple trips to the toilet to eventually empty everything out, and it will sometimes be accompanied by abdominal discomfort associated with the bowel movements. This has kind of become the accepted norm for me and I don't really NOTICE it until I stop smoking weed.

When I stop smoking weed, I notice that I fart what I would consider a normal amount; Not excessively, just what I would consider normal, compared to the almost never passing gas when I've had my daily cannabis. But the real difference is in the quality of my bowel movements. When I'm not smoking cannabis, my bowel movements appear normal. No painful gas, no small stringy poops, everything comes out in a few massive logs in a single trip to the toilet.

Has anyone else had similar issues, or have any idea what might be going on? It is NOT diet related as I eat essentially the same things, but they are NOT processed by my intestines the same way depending on whether or not I've smoked cannabis. There are obviously many other changes that occur when I'm not smoking cannabis, but the change in fecal quality is what seems most unusual.

Well....

the first thing that comes to mind for me is to ask you if your eating habits change when you're stoned, and if you're stoned often enough that you don't even realize that you're not getting a balanced diet a majority of the time. You pretty much address that in your post, though.

Even more easily unnoticed could be the possibility that you're simply not drinking enough water when you're high, and again, if you're high a majority of the time and only drinking sugary drinks then you probably won't even realize you're dehydrated until the day you go to take a shit and push out 17 tiny little pebble turds in quick succession.

I don't really have any ideas about the lack of flatulence, but honestly? Take a day to pound some water down, go to the store and grab a Gatorlyte or Liquid IV to balance out your electrolyte levels. If things don't resolve themselves shortly thereafter (or if they literally only appear when you smoke and everything's fine when you're sober) then it might be in your best interest to make a doctor appointment and get a referral for a good gastro to take a look at you.

Thc decreases gut peristalsis and defecating reflex, BUT relaxes the bowel which can also help a bit (my friend actually often poops after first evening tokes).

I have IBS so it is kinda welcomed, but smoking few grams a night can postpone even the morning poop after good nights sleep few hours.

I've noticed something similar. Almost all psychoactive drugs do something to the digestive system. No need to doubt your experience imo.

The most apparent effect in this category for me however was getting the anxiety shits from smoking outside in some bush. I since stopped smoking for several reasons and now with exclusive oral or vape use only notice a minor effect like the one you describe.
