Are there are any cannabinoid antagonists in existence?

Basically, I'm curious about drugs which would block the effects of THC/weed.

This is in regards to treating someone who has a serious addiction to weed which is interfering with the person's functioning and overall life.

Thanks for any replies. :)

Direct cannabinoid antagonists doesn't exist. But you can find help from pill's that work on same receptor sites. Don't know any to suggest, but little search may help. Some cannabinoid's are beta-bolckers which cause depression or anxiety. You may look some medication that work's on thees receptor sites.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I tried to help and hope that this information help's.

Well a quick search of pubmed turned up a couple articles with direct cannabinoid antagonists. However it doesn't look like any are even close to becoming approved drugs, or even entering human clinical trials.

Any case if this person really wants to quit I think offering them some sort of support, getting them into behavioral therapy, antidepressants, or just being there, may be better than trying to detox them.

I definitely agree about support, therapy, ADs etc...I just want to get it from as many angles as possible.

An alternative that would work would be some type of drug that makes the cannabis high unappealing, thus having a negative reinforcement effect.

Yeah, there are many kinds of CB receptor antagonists. There was a study a while back which showed that a CB1 receptor antagonist gave improved short term memory...

Unfortunatly, people with addictions to drugs don't tend respond well to antagonists, i.e. naloxne therapy doesn't work. But anyway, the common CB1 receptor antagonists are SR141716A and AM251. though cannabinoid receptors are quite highly used in the brain, blocking them to a high level could be quite nasty....

How would you get anyone to willingly take such a drug? 8(

I think whoever your friend is will have to swallow the willpower pill.
