VANCOUVER - A resurgence of the use of ecstasy by young Americans is being fuelled by Canadian producers smuggling the illegal designer chemical drug - which is increasingly laced with crystal meth - into the U.S., according to the White House drug czar.

John Walters, director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, is warning Americans to be aware of a "dangerous new drug threat coming from Canada."

In a news release distributed in the U.S. and Canada, Walters warned that ecstasy - a manufactured pill that triggers the feel-good brain chemicals serotonin and dopamine - is becoming popular again.

"Historic progress against ecstasy availability and use is in jeopardy of being rolled back by Canadian criminal organizations," Walters said in the release. And that's "alarming for the youth of both Canada and the United States."

He said ecstasy usage rose in the 1990s in the rave culture, where users took the "hug drug" and danced for hours, but its use dropped in the early 2000s.

But a recent 40 per cent spike in use between 2005 and 2006, with one-third of users being under 18, worries Walters.

"These increases coincide with increased trafficking of ecstasy from Canada," said his office.

The number of ecstasy pills seized at the Canada-U.S. border grew tenfold in three years, to 5.5 million in 2006 from 570,000 in 2003, it said.

A spokesman from the office, who spoke on condition he wouldn't be identified, said there is virtually no ecstasy produced in the U.S., possibly because of more stringent controls over the importation of the ingredients needed to produce the pills.

He said the pills before 2003 were imported largely from the Netherlands and Belgium, but Canada has become a new "target country."

"We thought we kind of had this problem licked" through stepped up law enforcement and education programs that highlight the dangers, such as damage to the brain and other organs and even death.

Cpl. Richard De Jong, of the RCMP's drug and organized crime squad, said the RCMP shares the U.S. officials' concern about the increased production of chemical drugs in Canada and the increasing use of the highly addictive crystal meth.

"He's just stating the obvious," he said. "We're recognized as a threat country."

you know what, i live in NYC, and im pretty sure (and at least according to the DEA website, those faggots =p) that most of our X comes from canada, and lately, there have been nothing but great rolls (i am _not_ referring to the g ladies, although when they first came around they were good), in fact the last two rolls I've had seem to exceed the typical "MDXX HIGH" doses...

Canada, thank you for the clean MDMA, unfortunately it is prolly being traded for guns and coke, so that canada can become just as fucked up as our country

you can't have ecstasy legal, because if it is, people will kill themselves taking to many of them, because they're sooooo good. If you feel good, and want to feel great then thats illegal.

Okay, I completely think MDMA should replace alcohol in terms of "the legal drug", but what you seem to also be implying is that alcohol is safer as well.. which i would say is completely false.

Firstly, thats a pretty dumb statement. If "ecstasy" was legal, that would mean it would be nothing but MDMA, and lets say they were about the strength of an average, good, clean roll. So lets say that it was legally sold in 100mg MDMA HCL pills. Sure, mdma feels great, but thats at your sweet spot. The higher, and more often you dose, the less euphoric and more speedy it becomes. It would be the same thing as friends of mine eating 9 rolls in a night, which im sure is fairly common among mdma users. Have you talked to a friend while they were on 9 clean MDMA or MDA pills? usually by then, they dont really feel so good, especially as the pills have releasing serotonin all night, the person is pretty much void of serotonin. this pretty much just makes E feel like meth, and cannot give you the primary effects you seek BECAUSE THAT IS CAUSED BY SEROTONIN, MDMA JUST RELEASES MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF IT... besides doing that, the only thing mdma does itself is stimulate you since it is a methamphetamine-related drug. My point is, you cant just keep taking rolls and keep feeling better and better forever, even if the person is careless enough to do this, most people here on bluelight know this:

MDMA is a drug that is absolutely wonderful, but it also cannot be used, say, the same way as adderall can (daily, regular use), and even weekly use is gonna teach you a hard lesson after a while. Basically, if you treat it with care, it will do the same to you. If you abuse it, it will abuse your fucking brain, and your life. Everyone I know who has taken E too often has gone through this.. after a while most people who abuse (those people are usually the ones taking really high doses, i stick to 1-2 good rolls and thats it) ecstasy either stop using it completely, or take a fairly long break and hopefully use it more carefully.

Its not gonna kill anyone, and that would take 20 rolls at once. Most people simply have the intelligence to realize this is not a drug that works the same way as amphetamine. Also, it would probably DECREASE casualties because pure mdma causes very little deaths, most are associated with drinking too much with the roll (you should not drink while rolling) or dehydration. It would also dispell bullshit propaganda, and like alcohol, except this is not addictive or nearly as damaging, the rules of rolling safely would be common knowledge.

PS: If they are gonna start attacking ecstasy again (like the 90s) and create even more strict laws, and make it a priority to bust all these labs, creating the same chemical that MAPS research showed helped rape victims, and many other cases of PTSD, and in the past was successfully used in marriage counseling, therapy, etc.... and also the one common recreational drug we have that powerfully promotes LOVE and EMPATHY, im gonna flip. They dont want us to be happy :(

Just let coke guns fear alcohol uncertainty, and a very violent culture rule our lives.

uhh.. what a moron. it has never lost its popularity, its just not mainstream like it was in the 90s.

Good for us not only can we put out good weed to the US but we can put out good ecstasy.

I don't think ecstasy ever died out at all in fact it seems to have less of a stigma attached to it now then it did during the mid 90's. Most people i know don't think of ecstasy as any big deal and put it on the same level as weed, shrooms and LSD. Years ago i remember people saying that the stuff was just as bad as crack or meth but you never hear that anymore really.

One thing i don't get is why our government doesn't bitch at the US government for the flood of handguns that come across the border into here. Most of the illegal guns that end up in the hands of stupid street gangs come from the US but of course guns are good while drugs are bad to the US government.

Although police chiefs and some other groups especially in toronto and the rest of ontario complain about all the guns coming across the border the canadian government never bitches at the white house for it.

Damn it you Canadians, you're stealing our main export income from us =D

in all of my dealings, it's been maily jews importing it. I dunno where he gets his data (the source?), but I always assumed that jews were still in control of the e market?

I wonder if that's why and where we've been getting so much glorious molly from lately. If there is currently a surge in MDMA usage, its probably because the producers got the word that people were sick of speedy pills and that people don't trust pressies anyore, and started selling it as molly. Most people I know love molly but won't touch pressies. Granted, I am in Texas which is far from Canada, but the heady folks around here tend to travel a lot for the festivals and whatnot, so who knows.

How do you folks up north usually get it, molly or pressies? I guess there's probably still pressies here in Texas for the high school kids and rave people, but usually not in the educated users/hippie crowd, they're only interested in molly.
