Yes you can as a matter of fact. I did it last weeknd for the first time. What we did was crush a half bean and sprinkle it on some buds. Its tastes kind of weird. But you eat your regular bean just before you smoke. Then you smoke. It makes your whole body warm and cozy. And youfeel like sort of really ripped, but still there. And then you start rolling. I liked it. Sorry I couldn't explain better.

Why not just swallow it?
Snort it if you want (not my prefernce).
If there are any effects from smoking it I can believe that they would last very long.

MDMA is iself a psychoactive compund. Heating it up into vapor and inhaling DEFINATELY does something to the chemical makeup. If there's any speed in the bean you smoke, you're pretty much free-basing. You'll probably get pretty damn high, but you also do suckin on dust-off.
