I know it works the other way around. And I've succesfully treated Xanax withdrawal with alcohol (the way alcohol wd is treated with benzo's) before, too.

Anyone know?

I have diabetic neuropathy in both legs....been out of Gabapentin for ~26 hours and no idea how the fuck I'm gonna make it to 27. Besides general anxiety/insomnia I can't stand the discomfort* in my legs any more! And I keep JUMPING where - as well as the general aching/burning in my legs - I keep getting this awful pain that's kind of like being stabbed with a needle into my joints mixed with an electric shock.

*please don't mistake "discomfort" for "milder pain": I just feel it is more descriptive of the very intense aching and burning pain. It is NOT mild.

Oh yeah the twitching is fucking awful, pretty bad RLS

Oh yeah, I came off gaba using DXM and paracetamol only. Helps a lil but mostly I toughed it out.

Well Opioids don’t generally affect GABA receptors much, but that isn’t to say it couldn’t provide some relief. It very well might. However, great care would have to be taken to not end up with a worse dependence/addiction than you started with. Because opioids have a much higher dependence and addiction potential than gabapentin even does.(although of course that varies greatly from person to person.)

Opioids would certainly help with the anxiety and general discomfort

Can you go into more detail on how things worked out "treating" xanax withdrawal using alcohol? From my own experience, drinking while in acute cold turkey benzo WD was a mistake. Not only did I become so dehydrated I couldn't take a dump, but I still had severe insomnia that only ended after getting 10mg haloperidol injected in the ER after I was brought in due to a prolonged seizure. With the amount of whisky I had been consuming, you'd think I would have at least gotten a bit of sleep, but I remained awake for 6 very long days.

Kratom would work particularly well for gabapentin withdrawal symptoms given that it contains calcium channel blocking alkaloids. Kratom seems to work pretty decently for light to moderate benzo withdrawal as well (though it can also make it worse in some regards). The major issue is of course is that you'll wind up with a kratom addiction.

As far as alcohol for benzo withdrawal, in my experience alcohol only relieves the symptoms for a very short period of time (perhaps for around 40 minutes or so). This is followed by an increase in withdrawal symptoms. Alcohol is, among other things, a dissociative -- which only exacerbates benzo withdrawal induced dissociation. Not to mention extends the whole process.

I am going to try to drink bubbly wine and red. For my relief from No More opioids.

I quit for a whole year and did xanax.

I didn't know how strong xan could be. Way stronger than what opioid will ever do to me.

It made my brain into a dunce. I don't know how I lasted a whole year of that xanax.

I mean forget dying. Just do xanax.

Anyway. Just saying this is problematic. I wish just plain weed could fix it. Right. He he but it can't.

I'd rather shoot heroine (if it was real) ((it's tainted if anyone is going to ask)) than ever do a xanax. That stuff is bad news. Bad bad news.

And strong. Too.

So anyway trying to OT because I didn't like the withdrawals. All of it. I am still in it.
A long paws of total withdrawal everyday.
.. .So I don't want to turn to xanax again. Ever.

If I don' t have to.

What do you think. I think it could help. You know drinking just wine. BTW he he I don't have much alcohol experience. And
respected my opioids ? So I am just talking about wine. So I guess I answered my own
question. But the last thing I want to do is drink a lot. But maybe if it would help me through my
stomach aches. Then I would drink red wine.

You know this is out of control. I can't do xanax it threw me into
Cluster Headaches too

And made me into an idiot. But then it is a benzo and worse withdrawal than opioids so I might
have to go with the alcohol. Oh wait the mm isnt helping. So will the alcohol. Oh wait mayb e
the mm is working and that's how tough it is.

I would rather be dead than live without opioids. So there I go. Sorry this opioid thread was
just at the right place at the right time.
Gotta quit.

Don't underestimate wine, it is strong! Lately I've drinking a bottle of red wine a night 😖

Gabapentin doesn't affect GABA either though. it's a very common misconception that it does (especially since gaba is in the name of the drug). Gabapentin is a blocker of voltage gated calcium ion channels, and has effects similar to GABA drugs.

I have tried this before, and opiates did help quite a bit, though I was not severely dependent on gabapentin.

I stand corrected. I thought it was a GABA B agonist.

Same here. I'll never quit opiates entirely, love em too much.

Thanks for all the replies!
I now have neither and wish I was dead :(
Should get both in like 18 hours but .kjbggkjhvbk.jbvabzlvj,zbda

So would doing something that would release adrenaline help?

It’s not accurate to say it doesn’t affect GABA at all.

“In vitro, gabapentin modulates the action of the GABA synthetic enzyme, glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) and the glutamate synthesizing enzyme, branched-chain amino acid transaminase. Results with human and rat brain NMR spectroscopy indicate that gabapentin increases GABA synthesis.”

This thread is hilarious I'm sorry. I don't want to say it but... I just can't see you using it to treat "gabapentin withdrawal" lol.

It sounds like a great way to join the "opiates are life" club again. It would reduce the discomfort of course... like heroin addicts who use both xanax/heroin withdrawing from the xanax using more heroin to comfortably ease the pain of xanax withdrawal. It won't end well. You're better off getting a slight supply of benzos despite them being ironically stronger, but then reducing them into little doses when you truly feel so uncomfortable from the gabapentin.

Opiates help reduce the discomfort of anything from mental pain to physical. Even other withdrawals.. but it won't end well.

I'm sure Opioids would "help", but they're not going to treat your symptoms of neuropathy. Considering that Opioids are mankind's heavy hitters for pain, I think it's kind of a waste to expose yourself to them in circumstances in which they're really not going to be able to do their job. It's tempting to reach for any and everything when we're uncomfortable, I totally get that, but I don't think that doing this would be the best decision for you.

I'm already dependant on opioids lol. I wasn't planning to go get some off the street (I have a prescription). Benzo's i WOULD have to go out and get some illegally and I've been staying away from the for a while now.

Again, I'm already on opioids, I wasn't saying I planned to just start taking them.
