without effecting it's efficacy? I have never tried it before, but it sounds nasty. I was wondering if I could add a tea bag (Trader Joe's Irish Breakfast) while its brewing and drink with milk (how I normally drink tea) and honey or sugar. I am also planning on using a French press coffee maker to extract as much of the goodies as possible, and then give the kratom a 2nd boil. Also, I am lazy so I was wondering if I could make this a few pints at a time and keep in the fridge to heat up when I please? Or would this effects its efficacy? Thanks for your input.

Hey CarmelaSoprano, welcome to Bluelight! :)

In regards to your question, you certainly can mix kratom tea with other substances, depending of course, on what the other substances are. I've mixed kratom tea with regular tea bags on many occasions and I think it actually improved the overall experience (it certainly improved the taste, at least).

Using a French Press will also help you extract all the alkaloids easier. As far as storing the tea in your fridge, I would make sure you drink the stored tea within a day or two of making it, as, even in your fridge, pathogens can develop inside the tea, which isn't good.

You can of course boil the tea again to kill bacteria, but you would have to boil it for at least 20 minutes to make any sort of a difference.

Thanks Neighborhood for answering all my questions so quickly.....its seems from what I have been reading that you use this pretty frequently. Have you ever tried it with KavaKava extract, like a few drops in a cup of tea? I am looking to start gradually replacing the psycho meds the docs have me on (tranqs, opiods, mood stabalizers, anti-depressants etc etc) with natural remedies that have been utilized by humanity for thousands of years, and have been proven safe and effective. I also hear a little weed goes great with Kratom...Indio or Sativa in your opinion? Thanks for your help. I just want to get off all this crap, I don't even know who I am any more, as my personality comes from a freakin pill.

Not a problem at all :)

I am a quite frequent user of kratom (I'm assuming you checked out The Kratom Thread).

I have used kava kava extract, but only in capsule form, and I've never combined it with anything, although I believe some people have posted about that combination on this board somewhere or another. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

If you don't mind me asking, what psych meds are you taking? Kratom is ideal for helping you come off opioids/opiates or at least reducing tolerance (which is more or less what I've been using it for).

Just so you know, I can't act as your doctor, as I am not a doctor, just a guy on the Internet answering with his best intention, research and personal experiences. So, saying that, I don't recommend completely coming off your medication, certain mood stabilizers and antidepressants can cause very unpleasant withdrawal symptoms if stopped abruptly, just like opiates can.

If you are on benzodiazepine therapy, I encourage you to not go cold turkey without first discussing it with your doctor. Withdrawing from benzos can be life-threatening, there is a huge amount of resources available to you on Bluelight and elsewhere on the Internet to help you get off benzos, if you are in fact using them.

Oh no, not planning on stopping anything abruptly. Just doing a lot of research so I can go about this intelligently and effectively. And I see my doctor every month, and she is very supportive of starting to ween off of some of these meds. The thing that really sucks is doing this is going to cost a bundle. Insurance, of course, will not cover any herbs/therapies such as accupuncture, etc. But to get my grocery bag of pharmas cost next to nothing. I am currently taking depakote 1000 mg daily (mood stabalizer), sertraline 200 mg anti depressant (looking into St John's wart as a sub for this) xanax 1 mg 2xday for panic attacks (hoping kavakava will help in this area), oxycodone 5mg 3xday for RA (hoping for those analgesic effects from the kratom, keeping fingers crossed), and methalphenidate 10mg 2xday (HATE this stuff, rarely take 2nd dose). I suffered a nervous breakdown 3 years ago and have basically been on this regime since, except for doubling the sertraline and "stepping down" to depakote from seroquel. Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it:)
And like your new avatar, one of my fave movies
