Opioids Butrans Patch (for pain) causing me intense cravings for more opiates

Has anyone experienced intense cravings for opioids after being put on Bupe for pain? I've only had the patch on for a few days. Is this a normal side effect, even though it's not being used to ween me off opiates?

(I'm being prescribed this by my pain management doctor for ankylosing spondylitis--a type of severe arthritis that mainly effects my spine, knees, hips, hands, and shoulders.) I've been using kratom almost daily for ~2 years because of untreated pain, and to keep me from resorting back to my old ways (as opiates are my drug of choice since age 16).

P.S. Sorry if this has already been asked, I could only find threads from people who were detoxing or using suboxone, and I feel like the circumstance is a bit different.

Thank you so much for your help!!!

Do you feel any effects from the patches? Are you craving some type of feeling or just pain relief? If you have used opiates before I don't think you'll get any nice feelings from patches.

It's kicked in a bit stronger, but it seems like the more that it comes on it makes me wish that it was stronger. I've taken a good amount of kratom, and am feeling a little bit better. It's only day two, and it should take another 24 hours before it kicks in completely. I ordered MT-45, against my better judgement.

Opioids and I have a 7 year history (the first thing I tried, and still DOC), but I've only been using kratom recently, besides a small amount of hydrocodone/tramadol two months ago. I guess I expected it to be a bit better even though it's the lowest dose patch, since my tolerance is so low. Pain wise it's working okay.

It's begun to work more, and am feeling less cravings. I've also been using kratom and now have also been put on gabapentin, both seem to be helping as well. I am hopeful that my cravings were just a reaction to the slow release effects, now that I've reached a therapeutic level. Although, I still feel the need to add kratom to heighten the effects.
