So, who's going to black rock city this year? What are you bringing? Are you doing any art projects or working with a big camp? Is there anything you just absolutely have to see or do this year at burningman?

I'm just going to be camping in hushville (love the ability to sleep at night :) ), and i will be bringing awards to hand out to people for being "totally awesome".

Last year we brought solar-powered-s'mores, which were a hit (you used a magnifying glass to melt the marshmellows).

When does it begin? I really would love to go but I doubt I'd make it this year.

I have always wanted to go. Firends of mine who have gone many times over the last 10 years say it is very comercialized now and nothing like what it was. Not sure if they are just jaded now but it appears this is what a lot of long-timers are saying.

^ its still great for a first-timer. This will be my third year and I can see how people get jaded about it, but its still got so many wonderful things that you can't experience but 5% of them even if you try really hard to go explore all week.

I'm definitely going next year. It's probably going to be a one time thing so i'm going to try and make the best of it...

i'm one of the jaded ones so i won't be in attendance, but one of my friends builds the giant tetris and i heard a rumor that they booked richie hawtin. try to check that out if you're one of the people who likes to seek out world class DJs on the playa.

here is a bit more info about one of their techno nights:

TECH-SUAL HARASSMENT
tetrion (7:45 & esplanade)

The only place to be on Friday night! Over 12 hours of ground breaking techno beats, featuring some of the biggest names in the industry. Magda, Troy Pierce, Lee Burridge, Mathew Jonson, Bill Patrick, Konrad Black, Guido Schneider, Giacomo Conti, Seth Troxler, Fathom, Ernie K, Willis Haltom, Zane, and Loic Tambay. This will be a night to remember, going off at one of this years best night clubs on the playa: "The Tetrion" Just look for the giant tetris structures and you will be in the right place.

it shouldn't be hard to find ;)

Last year the tetris blocks were out in the middle of the playa, away from the city... I ran into one party there one night randomly, with the duck, the bus, and the LCD art car. It was freaking sweet :)

i haven't heard the hawtin rumour, but I understand they have troy pierce and magda, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch. I think Paul Ritch is there too, and he was incredible at WMC this year.

OT baby!
. sick lineup every night for a week ;)

edit: duh, maybe i should have read the above before posting. looks like no paul ritch, unfortunately. nice one on burridge though.

Last day of preparations before we leave, we have all (or at least almost all) of our supplies, now we just have to finish packing, clean the house, and get everything into the car. We leave tomorrow morning.

yeah, i'm helping my campmates pack the truck before sending them off... just like last year.
i'll probably have thoughts of jumping in and heading out to the desert, but i will resist ;)

we're going to need more information than that! when you've sufficiently recovered, how about a few highlights? lowlights? how were the playa conditions? how was the temple?

OT had a bunch of ass kicking first year campers, so setup wasn't so bad. strike was a motherfucker, but it always is. The temple burning (which I missed last year) was an incredibly emotional experience. Tetris camp was super badass, but there was never anybody there. Tons of incredible installations in the middle of the playa, including that huge group of flame cannons that fired off in such a way that the explosions made a bunch of different beats.

Overall, the music was disappointing. Our campers threw down by FAR the best sets I heard all weak. Christopher Lawrence ladidadied around. Carl Cox was all over the place, Donal Glaude wouldn't shut the fuck up while he was spinning, and basically the rest was dubstep. oh, and infected mushroom was a complete disaster, but the crowd loved it so I guess I shouldn't complain.

I did a LOT of djing this year, much of which was recorded (and will be posted). a 4 hour mostly slamming techno set on an art car with a badass sound system was one of the highlights of my week for sure.

i'll see about posting some pics later.
