A small Buddhist temple in Thailand has been left without any monks after they were all dismissed for failing drug tests, local officials have said.
Four monks, including the abbot, tested positive for methamphetamine in the northern province of Phetchabun, an official told news agency AFP.
Boonlert Thintapthai said the monks were subsequently sent to a health clinic to undergo drug rehabilitation.
The raid comes amid a national campaign to tackle drug trafficking.
The monks were reportedly removed from the temple after police administered urine tests on Monday, which saw all four men fail. Officials did not say what had brought the temple to the attention of police.

If I had to guess there was probably a small drug in a village and/or someone snitched on them.
They had to be suspicious about something.

I am telling you guys though, the medical system and other systems in our world are being changed rapidly.
I wonder what The Future is going to look like.

I have a feeling their meditative chants were just going on too late and loud too many times.

Not sure what to say taking it more seriously. Why does a monk need to be 100% for anyway? Clearly since all 4 were using it there was some reason behind this. It doesn’t have to be the best or healthiest one, but a real answer to that would be great. I really hope these guys aren’t swayed in their beliefs over this and can continue with their order and faith someday.

I kind of understand why monks would be prohibited from drug use. If their goal is to labor spiritually, drug use likely wouldn't jive with the ascetic lifestyle they pledge.

Imo most other jobs aren't predicated on giving up worldly pleasures, and its hard to describe meth as anything but.

(not that drugs can't be used in a spiritual context; just that spiritual context)

I saw this one. So ironic. Completely against the tenets of Buddhism to do this. Almost hilarious, in a dethatched sort of way. Sardonic humor.
