ok so I'm looking for an awesome book to read. I'm a big fan of science fiction fantasy but I'm no afraid to try new things.

Well if you have read something that you think is truly amazing please tell meh so I can stop looking and get to reading

Dune by Frank Herbert is an incredible Science Fiction book, if you haven't already read it.

Also, this.

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold is by far one of the best books I have ever read. It's kind of sappy at times, but it is one of those books that I picked up because I thought the cover was interesting, the story sounded interesting, so I started to read it and literally could not put it down until it was finished. I LOVED it. May not be your type of book, but I'm going nuts waiting for the movie to come out, I just hope they dont bastardize the book by making a shitty movie.

Basic story line is that a girl is raped and murdered, family does not know what happened to her for some time. She then tells the story of her life and the search for her and her killer from Heaven, watching over her family. Sounds kind of sappy/cheesy but it is seriously an amazing book.

One of my favourites is The Rules of Attraction by Bret Easton Ellis. It's definitely not for everyone and can get a little melodramatic but it's a fun ride. It's about college kids told from 3 different perspectives, highly recommend.

I just finished "VALIS" by Philp K Dick. It was really good. I'm guessing if you are a science fiction fan you may have already read it.

A good book I just read is called Notre-Dame de Paris: The Biography of a Cathedral by Allan Temko. This is one of the best books I have ever read, it covers pretty much everything from day one to completion, and doesn't read like a school history book, which makes it a lot more fun and interesting. I don't know if you have ever seen Notre-Dame in person, but if you have or ever plan to, this book will definitely give you a better appreciation for the epic cathedral.
Of course if you have no interest in Art History or that building, then you probably wouldn't like it much. I too like fantasy novels but it's nice to actually read a historical book every now and then, knowledge is power.

Of course you cant go wrong with Band of Brothers or Night either.

awesome

If you are into drugs at all which im guessing is a safe bet here on bluelight. You should really read kitchen confidential by Anthony Bordain. Its about him abusing drugs and generally being a disgruntled kitchen worker. My life.

I'm a huge fan of fantasy, and I enjoyed:

-Anything by Neil Gaiman - including his Sandman graphic novels, not books technically but just as deep and complex as his novels. My favourite novels of his are Neverwhere and American Gods.

-Robin Hobb's books: your standard fantasy trilogies, but well written compared to some of the other crap that's out there (Robert Jordan, I'm looking at you)

-'The Famished Road' by Ben Okri: Not fantasy, but magical realism. It's set in Nigeria and is about a young boy who is a 'spirit child' and lives on the border between the real world and the spirit world. A great read, very imaginative and a little dark. It won the Booker prize.

-'One Hundred Years of Solitude' by Gabriel Garcia Marquez: Also magical realism, a work of genius IMO, and my all-time favourite book.
